Yea with that 911 thread being locked.. it seems that could be avoided if the Moderators or someone put together a (sticky) thread which would tell us what type of 'political' tone.. or level of 'national pride', etc, will keep your thread from being dogged by opponents, and finally trashed.

Why, oh why do I get the sneaky suspicion.. that if the thread was either 'going the other way', politically.. or better yet, was just a fan boy for America, the Republicans, or other assorted pro-status-quo, business-as-usual types, that it would still be opened?

I considered e-mailing management about this.. especially the 911 thread which was; a hot topic, controversial, thought provoking, brought out the best & worst of us, and just plane relevant to communications as well as 'Talk Radio' and it's role in 911 and it's aftermath.

But it's obvious that the thread had enough discussion and input, to explain both sides, in great detail, already, ... so I am posting this question to RFA as a whole now.

If threads like "As we approach the 6th anniversary of 9/11...." are NOT considered-- to be aloud to be in ANY part of Totse-- (let alone a forum named: Radio Free Amerika).....

Then where does it belong... (other than the trash basket, where it now lies)??

Should topics relating to and covered by: 'The Voice Of America': http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voice_of_America also, be 'trashed', simply because of the political 'tone' and 'the way' the thread was going?

Isn't radio.. and all things 'radio', one of the most influential, accessible, charming, and the ONLY and BEST ways for people to discuss major topics of the day, which effect us all??

It's nice to see you back, Halvy.

I think kelsokid's position is that RFA is more about the technical aspects of radio than the political and social aspects. I haven't actually spoken about this with him, though.

I'd guess he'd probably say 9/11 discussion belongs in the Conspiracy forum, social aspects of radio in various other forums, and politics in P:LR&C. I'm just guessing, though. I'm sure he'll say what his position is himself.

RFA heading clearly states:

"..favorite pirate radio stations, the FCC, radio stories, working at radio stations, and more. .. ",

Which would allow for us to discuss what radio stations are discussing, since they play such a huge aspect of our lives.

You can break down almost ANY thread and say it belongs here, or belongs there..

I doubt tho, that is what anyone wants, since that would cause complete chaos.

Since there are no hard and fast rules, generally speaking.. as is implied in Totse.com FAQ's, where it is laid out:

".. However, there are also text files on here that discuss politics; democratic, right wing, left wing, libertarian, communist, and everything in between, but this is not a political web site.

There are files on here that discuss Jesus Christ, Muhammed, Buddha, Crowley, John Smith, and "Bob", but this is not a religious web site.

There are files full of short stories, science fiction, humorous articles, and great works of literature, but this is not a literary web site.

There are files with information on rocketry, radio broadcasting, chemistry, electronics, genetics, and computers, but this is not a technical web site. ..".

If Moderators are going to 'come down' on one side of the other on an issue.. that is one thing.. after all, we all do.

But to silence or chill the opponent will only do one thing.

And that is, make the opponent go somewhere else.. maybe underground, to discuss his ideas.. and wait to oppress the oppressor.

I think the sticking point here is, how far a Moderator will or can go, in directing the forum.

I believe RFA needs to and can go, as far as it can go.

RFA has a core following which help makes it unique, as other forums also have certain 'regular' members, who contribute and lurk.

To force their ideas into other forums, where the chances that they will still be kicked around, back and forth, is both unnecessary, and non-productive to the Forum.

Nevertheless, the very topic 'Radio', and the spelling of America, with a 'K', draws peoples attention... not to the technical aspects of RFA only.. but obviously, all-things-political.

Again,as Radio Free America (and Radio Free Europe) ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Radio_Free_America ), is/was to be a beacon of truth, RFA, is to be an icon both of Freedom Of Speech, and Totse :)

It's entirely true that RFA can contain discussion of the political aspect, I merely locked it because the event in question was almost 4 months ago....Halvy, I am slightly surprised and shocked about this threads appearance. It's basically a "Y U close thread" thread.

I'm just trying to point out that each forum could probably have some connection to earth shattering events, like 911.

But especially a radio forum, where 'talk shows' and their influence on what has/is happening, should be paramount, in the forum.

No worries.
