has any one ball milled magnesium before?
has any one tried it before? What mesh do you need to start out with to get decent results?

cannot say anything about magnesium, but ball milled magnalium works very well, since its so brittle.

i ball milled it once .. i dunno whats to tell mine were just turnings from a lathe i dunno i burped it about 2 twice in the first hour and then ever 15 following ... um really speaking does not matter what you start with .. even a block after rolling aroung long enough will be reduced it's all just a matter for time and patience .. use a rat tail file and just goge down a block and mill from there .. or look for a machine shop and get some turnings ..
if you can get a magnesium rod you can just use a metal lathe at school or in your shop and then mill the turnings

If you've got Mg stock and a lathe, fuck milling it, just wrap some sandpaper around the rod and stick a hopper underneath.
Sure, you can mill it later f you need it even finer, but depending on what grade of emery paper you use it should turn out great. S'how I powder my aluminium.
Haha, Im dubious as to anything but medicore mesh comes from that though.

You'd be surprised what you can end up with if your media's hard and heavy. Not in the 1000'ds mesh, but it'll flash just fine.

I tried grinding it but after hours of running my machine all i had was a few grams of magnesium dust.
but my ball mill was able to turn aluminum powder radiator stop leak in very dark aluminum dust
