Hi, sorry for making a lot of threads recently.
1. "Oxide" cement colours - I see them in my local hardware. They are pretty much the exact same colours as Iron Oxide and Cupric Oxide (the green one), so could they be pretty much pure, and right to use for colour compositions?
2. What's the go with importing oxidisers into Australia? I can't find any info that says if I can/can't do it. I want to import some Barium Nitrate or Strontium Nitrate and try to get into adding colour to my stars.
Thank you for your help, BB :)

CuO is dark black.
AFAIK Fe2O3 is used in red cement colorants, dunno in what proportion to other shit but Fe2O3 is easy enough to make.
Not being an Ausfag I dunno about the laws. Good luck to you though.

Well I do know that the iron oxide one is... iron oxide, and yes, it's a pretty fine powder (most I see) and is pretty pure. Not sure on the copper oxide, though, I'd like to say they can make that colour in different ways, but I've honestly got no idea what goes into it. :\
As far as importing, we do have one or two (well used to) aussie pyros, though I think google should turn up somewhat vague (legalese) answers, but answers all the same if no one here can field it.

Ceramic supply.
MOST color stars need some chlorine donor... so unless you have perchlorates, and parlon, saran, dechlorane, PVC, or chlorowax you will have to find them (perc + another Cl donor) (Cl donor already powdered) too.
You are NEVER going to be able to import BaNO3.
-SrNO3 is white, so good luck identifying that.
-FeO is rust, so you could make your own(probably really inefficient though). I'm thinking getting a few iron pipes, some O2 and fucking around with Le chatliers would be a good idea if you want it done fast.
-CuO is black. Your thinking of CuCO3, which is a beautiful teal/green.

That too. Same deal as one of Moko's first writeups here, on powdering Al by reacting it with HCl, and then displacing it with Mg. Left with a decent mesh Al, and MgCl.

Tzar-style shameless self promotion.
Anyways, if you really want Ba(NO3)2 you could probably work out a long arduous loss-inducing route to producing it from BaCO3.
Like BaCO3 + NH4NO3
or
BaCO3 + HA --> BaA + ..
BaA + NaOH --> Ba(OH)2 + ..
Ba(OH)2 + NH4NO3 --> Ba(NO3)2 + ..
damn, that is some lazy ass chem there. anyways yeah. hopefully someone understands what i mean.

They best way to get barium nitrate is to buy it at a pyrotechnic convention. 5lbs for $20.
This also applies to great quality quickmatch, mortars, fuse, chems of all kinds, hemis, tooling, tubes, etc...
So hurry up, get mature, turn 18, join a club/guild and network.

Dark black? What other kinds of black are there =/ Haha just messing.
And yeah you can get Fe2O3 as a cement pigment if you don't want to make your own even though its extremely easy.
I actually have a bunch from cement pigment from when my house was built in 1928.
Id send it to you if the gov. wasn't so crazy with things now they'd probably think its Heroin.
BOB- Pyrotechnic conventions sell chemicals? Lucky.. I wish my state even allowed fireworks here.

Yeah at the PGI convention:
Most of the big pyrotechnic companies regularly have booths setup in one of the vendor areas. Yes. There was more than one vendor area. I can't remember if there was an area for 1.3g buying/selling... but there was 2 areas for 1.4g fireworks, an area for chems which was pretty damn good though im told that in past conventions it was around 2-3x bigger and it was smaller due to the legal cases, however, it had just about every chem one could want... and hemis, tubes, fuse, and very very reasonably priced mortars. I took home an 8" for when i decide im ready for that. I probably saved $25 by buying it there and not having to pay S/H... There was also a huge area for sellers with tools, booths for other clubs, tons of e-firing system sellers, tons of shirts, some sellers of neato mortar racks, lead ball moulds, wolter was there with just about everything on his site and he always had a small crowd of people hovering around his booth and buying tooling and non-cut rocket tubes....
I really can't put just how much was there to words. psycho_1322 will agree, it was huge and definatly worth the money to join and make the trip if display fireworks, supplies shopping without hazmat or S/H fees, and making rockets or shells or both on site is your thing.
Keep in mind that it is A WEEK LONG EVENT.
Damn that sounds pretty interesting. I would definitely make a trip to check it out depending on how far from me it would be

OP dun be a n00bpenis go2da ceramix shopz and gat ursalf sum BaCO3 den go to science place and get 20L of da 70% HNO3 for $120. BaCO3 is lyk $5 a kilololol. mix da two (Of course prior to the actual reaction of the two precusors for Ba(NO3)2, use stoichiometry to calculate the ammount of each needed based on the actual concentration of your acid, so as to avoid needless waste). Itz shit ez 2 do u just mix da 2 and den filtah out da good shit at da end yo!

Sorry Pooter, but FeO is wustite, it has a black color with a greenish hue. Red iron oxide, a.k.a. Iron (III) Oxide, or hematite, is red.
You can use copper pipe to make almost any copper salt, try that.
For rust, you can find it in paint supply stores as a pigment. It should be fairly un-regulated, even in Aust.

Mainly i've been getting drunk and having lots of sex. Finished year 12 a few weeks ago. Starting full time work on the 12th of january. Projects planned:
Peroxide watergel
ETN
MHN
Larger NG batches
Lots of MEKP (For exploding targets)
PLX
Many shaped charges (found some nice witness plates at work)
Also a bunch of pure pyro that takes too long to list.
What about yourself? Are you still using the gmail account? or back on hotmail?

Alright, fellas.
I have found:
Metal powders ranging from 200 - 625 mesh and 2 micron.
Nitric, Sulfuric acids
Sodium Benzoate
For very cheap, so I am pretty much set.
I can hook people up, but not give out the source. I see why you guys were so reluctant to tell me where to get chems.

I looked into that a while back. I worked out a route, I think, then discovered that 1g of BaCl2 is enough to kill 'ya. I have some SrCO3 (am I fucking up the formulas? Should it be (CO3)2? it's been too long.) sitting in my workshop that I have yet to get around to playing with.
Finding chlorine donors is a pain in the ass. Anyone had success finding a good source?

Surely you aren't gonna eat it?
CO3 has a 2- charge so you had it right the first time.

Yes indeed the best investment of my money in pyro. The 1.3g section wasa mixed in with the chems, not really display types of 1.3g but stuff like lances, stars and QM/SM. Its considered 1.3g but you can buy it under the clubs license. There were no e-matches their though because of some new rule they made.<(this was overheard and could be incomplete info) I took my time getting to the chem section and lost my chance at some barium nitrate and other chems I would have loved to pic up. The popular ones sell out fast, and the odd ones are always around. I did pic up some german dark for $20/lb should haave got some Mg for the same price too. That was about $3-5 cheaper than others were selling it for. I also got 2lb. of NH4KClO4 at $10/lb, that was a mistake that costed them though, that price wasa for the coarser stuff that they were out of and the fine stuff was about 2 dollars for a pound, they gave me the wrong price, but at that price im not gonna say anything. I also picked me up some 4" shells along with a mortar. Got some other 3" janpanese hemis that are nice and hard and fit together very nice. Bought some 1lb strobe tooling from Walter and he cut me a good deal on some end disks that I also bought (could have been from me admiring and sharing knowledge about his wifes pottery), a nice press from Dan Creagan, a mold for making 5/8" grinding media, a pound of molecular seives, a 1000 foot roll of Visco for $25, learned a lot from about every Dan that I met there also. If you dont know this yet about half the pyros seem to be named Dan. Really there was about 5 of them in one half of a building. Oh and I had a few things donated to my cause, 3" plastic shells, 1 3/4" plastic shells, fast visco shell leaders, a random pair of 1 3/4" shells a guy found laying around, about 4 nozzle-less rockets and headers, some rags, and table space. People are very friendly, had two people tell me to come down to the ground salute range and they'd let me light some of the big salamiis, unfortunatly I never got around to taking up that offer. The classes also offer a whole lot of knowledge to be soaked up. Not to mention all the open shooting of rockets and shells to see, plus the nightly shows and a few million firecrackers going up in aa couple of seconds and griant fireball to acompany. Cremoras in 55gal barrles and one big one that was in a huge pipe of unknow capacity. Oh boy and thats not even the begining of it....They even had pyro energy drinks there:D
