So as starange as it sounds My dad bought a sailboat, The sail boat has an Icom IC-745 ( http://www.eham.net/reviews/detail/508 ). I also plan on making it a freebander (TX: 0.100 mhz to 30 mhz), The antenna is the backstay (i think that's what its called), its the guy wire that runs up the back of the boat Its about a 0.35" in. thick cable about 30-40 foot long (guessing.) it has thick copper foil in the bilge as a ground plane and also has copper contacts on the outside of the hull.

My question is do you think having the copper contacts about 10 in. long 4 in. wide x2. would act like an evenbigger ground plane? Do you think this would be an ideal setup for say... broadcasting?

Also I have no licence and im in mexico and plan on staying (but im an american) so geting a ham licence is not going to happen. But I have an idea.(don't laugh!) I read the transcipt of the movie "frequency" they used the Call sign WB2YXB. Well if you look it up in the fcc database http://wireless2.fcc.gov/UlsApp/UlsSearch/license.jsp?licKey=880832 you get that dude. Would you think this is a bad idea? I wouldent be using it whiel broadcasting only making regular contacts. I'm in mexico in the ocean so its not very likely that I will be tracked down ;) . So what does totse think of all this?

Im wondering if the radio will be able to handle music, Like the audio filters and all.And rock isnt the best for hearing over static. I hope it has a way too connect the laptop in. I dont want to niggerrig one into the mic cord.
