I figure one of you guys probably know how to build this. Here's the story, I work at a place 12 hours a day we have to wear a radio which is a head set (pretty much like a mp3 player) also we have earmuffs for added protection. The radios we use have channels 1-7 which I assume it's just the standard channels as on a 2-way radio. They only use channels 1-4 at work. I am wanting to be able to have an mp3 player transmit music over say channel 7.
I have an idea with attempting to take apart a 2way radio and splicing the mic section into the head phone cord of the mp3 player. This is just a very ruff idea I'm really looking for solid ideas.
Thanks in advance,

If you're wearing a headset with your radio, and hearing protection, you probably don't want MP3's to distract you, and your employer does not approve....they really don't, because I called them!!!!;)

I don't care what they want. I want to listen to music. Hell I could just wear an mp3 player if I wanted. Everyone on my crew would like to listen to music also. The only reason we wear the radios is for easier communications. We haven't had the radios but only about a year. We ran fine without them. So we can communicate with hand siginals as we did before. We use to be able to listen to music over the intercom system until we got this new plant manager. So that's why I would like to build this radio type thing.

why not just hook it up to one side of the earpieces or the other?
if you doit your more elaborate route, you would need to redesign most of the radio to have it work where it would be practical.

The best idea i can think of is do it like some CB's, where it will interrupt your AM/FM radio and play a message through your speakers.
That way you can still hear important messages and such.
