Everyone watches the EPL. Everyone English anyway, and most of the rest of the football supporting world. Do you look out for any team in particular?

Does anyone watch?

Yes, almost every Saturday/Sunday morning here in the US on Fox Soccer Channel. I have no real favorite team yet, but the English Premier League, to me at least, is by far, the most exciting soccer league in the world.

Even the shitty ones like Everton and Derby County are exciting because they're trying to stay alive in the top league; another aspect I like about European soccer. The relegation system. A whole fucking team being sent down for poor performance...I wanna see that with the New York Yankees some day. :)

Everton are quite good you know =P I'd be surprised if they finished outside the top half anyway, very surprised. Derby are awful though.

...yes, unfortunately. :(

And to those who said Everton are quite good: I sincerely apologize. I thought they were towards the bottom half of the standings. Maybe I should've went with Fulham.

What happened to Wigan? Weren't they the darlings of the Premiership once? I guess it was only once?

Hopefully Man City make it into Europe this year - at the expense of Liverpool/Chelsea...

About time the 'big 4' got broken up tbh.

If anyone wants to watch a big game. Tomorrow my hometown Luton is playing Liverpool in the FA Cup. Last time we played them, in 2006, we nearly caused the BIGGEST ever cup upset by beating them. We managed to go 3-1 up against the European champions (at the time), but unfortunately lost 5-3 :(

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/fa_cup/4565232.stm

Anyways, we've been drawn up against them again - so it might be worth watching! We're 2 leagues below Liverpool, and have already knocked out 2 teams which are in leagues above us, and NEARLY beat Everton in the other cup (lost in extra time).

United will always be better.

Than Liverpool? Wrong.

Liverpool are the most successful British club. 18 League titles and five european cups.

It's all about European cups, and Liverpools side in the late 70s was one of the best ever. Nottingham Forest have won it back to back as well (1979, 1980).

Man United have been having a great spell since the premiership started, the years prior to that they were no great side, but were still good. Remember that they were the richest club in the world (could still be) and for many years simply bought the best players around, then when Chelsea did it they started moaning. Made me laugh. Man Uniteds best players for the last few years have just been snatched from other clubs, the main one being Eric Cantona, without him Man United would have limited success in the earlier years, he was snatched from Leeds United.

Winning league titles when there was nobody else in contention is nothing to shout about, although in recent years Chelsea and Arsenal have made it a bit of a battle, although most of Man United's premiership wins have been with little or no competition.

Liverpool have won more European cups than any other British club granted, but Celtic have something Liverpool will never have- the first European Cup won by a British, or indeed Northern European club. Add to that that we won it with every player in the squad coming within a 30 mile radius of Celtic park and you have the greatest achievment by and British club right there.

Liverpool's European record deserves a lot of respect, but maybe it won't be there in 20 years time? Maybe United or Chelsea or Arsenal win a few cups. But Celtic will always be the first.

Yeah it happened in Scotland recently, a team called Gretna got promoted three times in three years or something and went form playing part timers to teams like Celtic and Rangers in front of 60,000 people.

Also, Fulham did it a while back to get into the English Premiership, but I reckon they'll get relegated this year.

The European cup comes down to luck. Remember 99? Depends on who you get. Also, if you're challenging on all 3/4 fronts, then its a lot harder. Liverpool back in 05 were already out of the PL title race and decided to put all the effort into the Euro cup.

Man United have been having a great spell since the premiership started, the years prior to that they were no great side, but were still good. Remember that they were the richest club in the world (could still be) and for many years simply bought the best players around, then when Chelsea did it they started moaning. Made me laugh. If you want success, you have to buy it. Look at Arsenal. They didn't bring up those players from the youth ranks, they brought them from different clubs i.e. Fabregas.

And arguably, the PL is a lot harder to win then back in the 70/80s.

Also, how much money does Rafa need to spend to win a PL title? Im pretty sure he's spent over a 100 million....

It can happen to any team. Damn, it wasn't so long ago Leeds Utd were playing in the semi finals of the European Champions League. Think Superbowl in terms of prestige, but on a European scale.

Now they're in the same league as my local team, Walsall, and are terrible.

Lol yeah bu you need someone to buy the club. Not looking likely at the moment..

I know :( There's a few bids lined up, but no news so far.

For those who didn't know, my hometown, Luton, managed to draw 1-1 against Liverpool in the cup, and we actually OUTPLAYED them. We're a team who's 2 divisions below Liverpool, and our players haven't even been properly paid for about a month now. That's what I love about the FA cup.

Now we have to play them again, but this time, because our club's bankrupt, about 4 of our star players, and some others, won't be playing because they have been sold, or because they don't want to get injured to ruin a potential move; our manager's leaving in February, and the future of the club's in doubt. In the space of about 2 weeks, our team's been completely destroyed·

All this because the people who bought the club before took all they could, then plunged our club into mayhem. 2 seasons ago, we could've work our way up to the premiership, but instead 7 of our star players were sold for a total of ~£10million, and the money dissapeared.

It's shitty how money's fucking over our game, and more importantly, the die hard supporters. The little clubs, who have 100 years of history behind them don't stand a chance anymore, because there's no way we can compete when fellow teams instantly get a £500million cash injection or something.

Hopefully we won't lose too badly tomorrow, 5-0 to Liverpool would probably be a good result.

Nice that somebody remembers Leeds Utd, which is the team I support.

We won last night and went 3rd! Although everyone around us has games in hand, it will be an interesting result in the next game against Doncaster.

-----

As for my rant on Liverpool, I think Liverpool are a shit team at this moment, they are far too inconsistent and are nowhere in Man United or Arsenals league. However, overall they are a more successful club, that can't be denied. It will change in years to come though. Like another poster said, their record deserves respect.

-----

Some guy was commenting on Celtic, I think it was 1967 when they won the European Cup, that was some fucking result I admit, I've actually got the game on a VHS somewhere, credit goes to them.

-----

Someone else was commenting on whether or not Liverpools record will be broken? Well it could be, certainly League Titles anyway.

-----

The Premiership at the moment is a bit strange, it's so open for that fourth place and anyone could take it. I wouldn't like to predict who'll win it, but it will be very very close. I agree with Mark Lawrenson when he says Man United are much better equipped to win games when not playing well. For instance, players like Ronaldo, Rooney and Tevez can just turn a game in a matter of minutes, where as Arsenal seem to get caught playing too much football at times. Man United seem to dare to try a long ball or an early cross where as Arsenal try to walk it into the net, it's shown in recent games for Arsenal as well.

On another note, what's everyones thoughts on Anelkas move to Chelsea? I think he'll do well for them. They've bought a fair few flops and I think he could be their answer. He could have had two on Saturday, he hit the bar and one of his shots was well saved, he's such a natural goalscorer and his level of skill is outstanding. Chelsea aren't too far away from Arsenal or Man United right now and could catch them if the results go right. I'm surprised that Man United didn't make a bid for Anelka, however Ronaldo is unstoppable at the moment. I've been impressed with the guys progression he just gets better and better. When he started it was all the tricks and fancy footwork now he is much more intelligent and sets up goals and scores for fun. He has everything, pace, strength, good in the air, flair, skill and can score goals. What more do you want?

A good move by Chelsea going for Anelka, I thought at the start of the season Drogba would be off and they've bought a less injury prone replacement, no to say he won't dissappear every two years for the African Nations.

I am no United fan, but if Berbatov does move there the attacking flair in that team will arugably be the best the world has seen, ever. Rooney, Ronaldo, Tevez, Berbatov, Saha, Giggs, Anderson, Nani? Damnnnnn.

Do they have the money to buy top notch players though? Newcastle these days always seem to buy players that just can't play together. Duff, Emre, Owen, Viduka, Cacapa (when at Lyon), Taylor and Butt are all class players and should be in the hunt for a UEFA cup place but they just can't bond (on the pitch) with each other.

Gotta say, he should have won the prize instead of Kaka, the latter won cause he won UCL and the Fifa club world cup...

But now the one that is starting to show what he came for is Pato, he is only 18 and is expected to be as good as or better than Pele was. I already watched Robinho when he played here, and watched Pato too, and Robinho was a shit compared to Pato. If know Robinho is considered good, imagine what Pato will be!

EDIT: Just to make it clear, i said Pato as in all the world. In the EPL, i think CR7 is still tops.
