View Full Version : How do modifiers work?
What is a modifier btw?
(I will probably know how they work once I remember what they are. however a review of the rules would be nice).
Gotta review all my grade school grammar stuff for some $$$.

You're going on "Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader" aren't you.
Modifiers are adjectives and adverbs that modify the sense of a noun or verb.
For example:
"A red ball" red refers to the ball and modifies it as a thing, therefore red is the modifier.
additionally you could have something like "Bob danced quickly", quickly is the modifier.
I've actually never heard the term "modifier" used before, and I was an english major, but according to the definition that's what it refers to.
Thanks.
Btw its the canadian version of the show, heh.

Keep in mind that adverbs can also modify adjectives and other adverbs. For example: very is an adverb than can modify all three things. If you are having a hard time determining what part of speech a word is, it's probably an adverb.
