Is anyone here going to try to make it to Anime North besides myself? If so, we should try to meet up.
Then I'm trying to think of something cool to go as. I want something older, but still recognizable. I've been trying to convince some of my friends to go as the clowns from Akira. But that's really my only idea. What would you guys recommend?

Man, I wish I could go, but I'm too far away. :(

Not a fan of Anime conventions. I feel dirty.

Oh snap. An anime convention near me? Maybe... maybe.
Then again, I'm pretty clueless when it comes to anime.:(
EDIT: On second thought, NO.

Lame dude, lame. 10,000 people. Legal drinking age of 19. What could be better. Plus you could look at all the people and think, "wow, I'm glad I'm not as pathetic as them!"

I'm still underage at 17, so not only would I lose out on all the good stuff like adult content, I couldn't drink or get a room. Still, I considered it. The $45 entry/registration fee was still sort of justifiable.
Then I read:
Glomping
“Glomping” (aggressive hugging, often without warning) can be disruptive and even cause harm to unsuspecting targets or bystanders being jostled in a crowded space. Please do not “Glomp” anyone without asking permission first. Repeated problems may be considered disruptive behavior and result in warnings and loss of convention membership.
And in an instant I remembered why I hate mostly everyone I've ever met IRL who liked anime so much that they might go to a convention.
It's not the fact that "glomping" is banned, it's the fact that they needed to ban it.

Gotta agree with that. Has glomping become such a problem that security measure need to be implemented? Do people just go around glomping strangers?

Gendo Ikari is a cool caracter. If you do it good you will be loved.

See, I'm too scrawny and my head is buzzed, so I wouldn't be able to pull him off to easy. Plus I'm not intimidating, or a bastard.

At Anime Iowa there were all night parties going on, so I'm sure you could just squat at one of those places. If not, find some one, (who isn't a rapist) and room with them once you get to the convention.

Anime conventions are manifestations of everything wrong with anime.

No they aren't. English versions of Naruto and One Piece are.

Bad dubs and lots of cuts no matter what you say aren't the only problems in the world of anime. You see, at the start, sometimes the Japanese, already have such bad dubs that I fall down to my knees. I hear girly boys and whiny girls and kids. I find the only difference is I can't understand how bad it really is. You go hotel, motel, watcha gonna do today? You see I'm gonna get a fly girl, gonna get some spanking, and drive off in a def OJ. Everybody go hotel, motel, Holiday Inn. See if your girl starts acting up, then you take her friend.
But basically, it's throwing all the annoying and fucked-up things associated with anime and celebrating them in an orgy of pretentious jubilation.

Having never been to one, I can't comment in a factual manner. I do however speculate that this is what most (if not all) conventions are like.
I mean, I like anime, but I like it in the way I like a book or any other TV show, not in the bullshit "anime subculture" way.

I had no idea what that was until reading this but I agree wholeheartedly

I am HUGE fan of anime, but conventions make me lose all faith in humanity, I was dragged to one once and it was horrible.
I mean seriously I like watching animes, reading mangas, but still you get there and you just don't wanna be associated with those types, it's like a Star Trek convention +100.

This is basically my opinion on the matter, word for word.
Aside from being dragged to one, never.

I would go to a convention if I ever got a chance. Being around all the old, sweaty guys dressed as Sailor Moon for a day is a small price to pay for all the cool anime stuff I'd pick up.
