View Full Version : If You Ignore Them...

They'll go away. The only thing you, my fellow atheist, needs to do to ensure the fall of religion is to ignore it. Religion needs attention to survive, ignore it and it simply becomes cult.

Stop feeding your ego. I know it feels great to be right, to rub it in. Salt + wound = profit. But for the sake of progress cease attending the believers you hate.

I want my clone. I want my life extension therapy. I want my limb replacement therapy. I want legal drugs. I want to go to war with another country because we want their oil, and I want that to be the official policy of my country. Not some goddamn war on an abstract noun.

None of my dreams will come true if you give religion the spotlight with your continous argument. Drop it, let it die. Please.

I cannot purchase alcohol in my entire state on sunday...

We have a litmus test concerning religion in America when it comes to our elected officials who make policy that affects our daily lives.

Xtians have changed science books in America and try to force them to fill in their ideology.

Xtians in America have forced our kids to honor a moment of silence in PUBLIC schools.

Huck won in Iowa....his ads contained nothing more than dead pan humor (chuck norris) and christian leader and symbolism.

I don't think it can be ignored. It would be like ignoring cancer.

Ignoring a problem doesn't make the problem go away, sadly.

Ignoring it would only work if the ignorers were the majority.

Or just bootleg it. Sans the license.

Someone mengtoned Huck--he scares the bejaysus out of me., Recently, he said he is opposed to civil rights for gays--wants a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage, And is opposed to reproductive rights for women, wanting a constitutional amendment to ban abortion.

In short, he wants to make the USA into a theocracy. Gee, that is working SO well in Iraq.

Ignoring the "Problem" doesn't always make it go away...

Granted, you have a point about religion partly feeding of human attention, and through that, their faith (and wallets) however....... this doesn't mean that ignoring it will change the status quo significantly. If you live in Saudi Arabia and you ignore the "Islamic" rules which govern their society, you will end up in trouble ranging from a telling off by the religious police, to being strung up, or having a nice tender hand amputated...

It's a cruel old world sometimes. I don't think "ignoring" that which you consider to be negative is really very positive at all. People are mentioning radical-conservative American quasi-Christians in this thread... who happen to wheild a fair bit of money n power. Ignoring this issue wont make it go away. Active, passive and peaceful resistance, aimed at informing others, whilst respecting the freedoms of personal choice in others..... is the only "realistic" way imo.

Ignoring the religious is quite a cop out. Whilst challenging them, or probing slightly can definitely either make you a target of certain people's pissed-off-ery, or end up making you a verbal firing range to be practised on.... doesn't change the fact that for those with an evangelical way of thinking, and the certainty of being RIGHT..... there is little else y'can do. They are going to be spreading "the word" however they can, usually.... with results ranging for some oddball in the street (my city..) to the freedoms of millions being affected over certain issues, e.g. abortions/laws over homosexuality (Iowa, or wherever..).

Apathy is never guaranteed to be successful.......

No. They won't.

I know a girl who knows NOTHING about current political issues. Wouldn't recognize any of the candidates if she saw them. But... she's going to vote for Huckabee because "he has a cool name."

It's this crazy American mind-set that's fucking the rest of us over. Those who don't support the fanatics don't care, as long as they can keep their credit cards.

"sweet dreams are made of these who am I to disagree"

Ignoring won't do a thing except Weaken a fire. Hopefully as science becomes more mainsteam throughout the world the end of religeon will happen. Either way I'll respect the 1st amendment and everyone else who upholds it. To everyone else you'll end up in your percieved hell after death.

You have to draw a line somewhere in this topic when it comes to talking about a particular religion and religion in general. People will always want to believe something, something greater than just what is in front of them.

I wouldn't want to see the ego being fed for long, leads to materialism and consumerism and when theres nothing left the consume the ego consumes itself, in other words... Since we are blinded by egoistic drives and when we consume our own ego's we begin to kill ourselves. Than were in deep shit, a little self-restraint goes a long way. The ego runs for pleasure to escape pain, your essentially wanting to numb yourself from the pains of the world if that is the case.

anyone seen that movie jesus camp? if you havent you should rent it, its rather fascinating and terrifying at the same time.

evangelical christians and the like have a big step up on the athiest and others of like mind. What is this you ask? Its the fact that they are simply unreasonable people. they hate the different and make it known. If your not with them you are against them. does this sounds reasonable to you? while the atheists are generally more apathetic by nature and generally are fine with your beliefs if you leave them alone about it.

That is where the problem lies, its like an army attacking the ocean, im a happy little fish going about my buseness of eatting other little fish and generally enjoying my life and then some fucker in a boat throws a grenade on my head and destroys my coral reef home. Oh but of course the invaders show some mercy and capture some of my friends and make them their pets, to live in tanks with a little plastic scuba diver blowing bubbles all the time.

this is why i decided to argue with religous people when i get the chance, its fun and it gives me a chance to be malicious for the sheer sadistic joy of it

Same reason why I talk religion with people... Ironically, fundamentalist feel the same way when an atheist comes around, the fish and the grenade story that is. In my view the world should be as liberal as it wants to be, its up to the religious folk to control themselves, not control society. Something I frown greatly upon when it comes to religious people. They preach strength yet they are so weak and afraid that if the temptation is there they will fall to it. If I was Yahweh I would be greatly ashamed of my believers. Yet, since I follow the God of love I have compassion towards both sides.

I say go for abortion but its up to me and my wife if we kill our baby and no religious nut wig has the right to tell me which decisions I should make or make the decision unable to be.

When it comes to protesting about abortion, you will never see me on pro-life side but the pro-choice just to prove that I am not going to put my beliefs on you. Of course, I'm gonna tell you right now I'm Pro-life but like I have been saying I believe in pro-choice for society.
