I am at a fork in the road. I no longer believe there is a God. (I think there good be a Greater Being ,but I have no evidence as of now.) And I don't believe in evolution. I can't ride the fence forever, sooner or later I need to find more out more where I stand.

Is having a definite stance on the matter really that urgent?
Can't you just believe what you believe, when you believe it?

I believe there is no God and that evolution is science fiction.

I wonder what you'll believe in next year.
Something cool I hope.

Is there anything you do believe in?

Facts.

Facts Shmacts!!

Facts.

Facts:

The oldest layers of the Earth and the fossil records consist of very, very simple animals. Trilobytes and such. As you come into newer layers of the earth fossils are of more and more complex creatures.

90% of every animal that has ever existed has become extinct.

Micro evoloution or natural selection is a fact. Most theists will not argue this. Speciation is what theism likes to dispute. Posing ignorant questions like "if we are from monkeys why do we still have monkeys?".

Every living thing is made from strands of DNA. This DNA has similar patterns in all living things. We share about 99% of this same pattern with chimps. Our codes are 99% identical.

If you are a large fan of facts then I suggest you check into evolutionary theory more. The facts easily speak for themselves.

Welcome to non-theism. Good to have you.

Funny how you say you don't believe in evolution yet you know less about it than my 7 year old brother.

Take it easy....he has just rid himself of God delusions. I would rather a person not believe in evolution AND theism than to be a theistic evolutionist or intelligent designer.

I grew up in complete bias towards the view of Christianity. I was taken to church Sundays morning and night, and even on Wednesday nights. On top of that I went to the private school at my church up till 7th grade. So no other ideas were considered in my mind during this period, not that I had a choice. So even when I decided to start thinking for myself and stop going to church I was still pretty closed minded. In school I would listen enough to know the answers on the tests ,but the whole time I was thinking "this is such bullshit." I'm in 10th grade now and this is the year I started thinking how far fetched the ideas of Christianity are. I also feel the same way towards evolution. It sounds like a great idea to me ,but nothing more than a theory. I still have the mindset that their has to have been some sort of Creator, maybe not the one the Bible talks about ,but some greater force that started this whole thing off. I'm going to read up on evolution some and then go from there.

I defected to atheism in 5th grade. Prior, I never really gave a damn about religion or the idea of deities. I was probably an atheist long before the actual realization/declaration but didn't give it a thought until late elementary.

I can't believe my mom tried to raise me catholic and my atheist dad let her. Fuck, that precious time of sleep I could have had! Good I got early, I say.

Better late than never, I'll also so. But if you're 15 now and just starting to think about this kind of stuff... man, do I feel sorry for you. At 15, you should be much brighter than this!

Funny how my mom raised me on religion AND dinosaurs at the same time. Early paleontology and Ranger Rick magazines for the win! I was aware of evolution since 4 years old due to my obsession of dinosaurs. It wasn't really a conflicting interest, one easily made more sense than the other.

So you're telling me that you at 15 has just now gave thought to evolution while I was a believer at 5 years of age (thanks Land Before Time!)? What a sick world I live in.

You should read up on the big bang while you are at it. If you truly feel a need for something magical or amazing science is your answer. There are so many mysteries that cutting edge science is dealing with right now. Amazing things that are REAL, completely REAL, and it is so much more interesting wonderfully complicated than "God did it".

Dude that leaves no excuse for ignorance. I went to private/catholic school from grades k-12. I'm christian and I believe in evolution. how is it just a theory. if you think that god made adam and eve and they looked just like what we look like now, then you'd be really daft. there's evidence everywhere.

Where is God? Everywhere, being that God is infinite. I'm no Christian, but Jesus was a smart cat, and he said "The kingdom of God is within you."

God is the majesty of the eagle's flight, and the wind that bears him aloft. God is the innocence of the doe in the woods, and the rain upon your face. God is the serenity of the rainbow and the fury of the storm.

Verily is it written--I am God. Thou art God. All that groks is God.

God exists only in a man's imagination.

An Eagle soaring is the product of evolution and physics. Is not as magical or pleasant as what you have proposed I will grant you, but that does not make it any less true.

QUOTE]

True. We create our own reality, God and all. Verily is it written, we are created in the image and likeness of God, and hence have--or can have, if we but own them--God-like powers of creation.

In the highest reality, we are not in the world; the world is in us. And we ARE the eagle, the fawn, the rainbow, and the storm. We are All One.

I have a question for you, sorry if it seems harsh. How can you feel Jesus Christ was a smart man, and not believe he was the Son of God. They go hand in hand. Jesus Christ said he was God's son, if I didn't believe that, then how could I believe he was smart? You can either see him as a liar or as lord. Not half and half.

That's called taking things literally. "son of god" is marketing. Try "we are all sons of god" and then replace god with natural explanations like evolution and "sons" with products of and suddenly it doesn't seem so damn retarded. Maybe stating the obvious, but a bit on the "Zen" side of things as well.

Less appealing to the "Santa Claus" crowd maybe, but a lot more insightful.

Priests are magicians and "God" is just another word for "magic." A synonym for self fulfilling answers. How did the magician pull the rabbit out of the hat? "He used magic!/ He's a magician!/By the ears!"

Thanks for the bs, but maybe you've never heard of Christianity? When Jesus Christ said he was the Son of God, he meant he was the [Son of God. If there's one thing you're supposed to take literally in the Bible it's that Jesus was the Son of God. It's kind of the whole purpose of the New Testament.

I think everyone's confused about religion until the day they die. Really it's much to abstract a concept for the human mind to ever conquer. But really, I believe in some higher being because, well I just do. It's just a feeling that I have. It doesn't effect anything I do in daily life, it's just something I believe.

Don't be in a rush to figure out where you stand, but I do suggest looking into various belief systems. There is no greater feeling than finding a belief that works for you.

Maybe try to figure out exactly what you don't like about the
Abrahamic religions and go from there. Personally, I'd suggest looking into some Eastern thought systems, as their "Greater Being" seems like something you might be interested in if you feel there must be some sort of force in the universe, but not an old man in the sky.

Good luck on sorting out your soul.

"Today a young man on acid realised that all matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, that we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there’s no such thing as death, life is only a dream and we’re the imagination of ourselves…"

God is everywhere and only in the imagination of our world.

Don't bash him.

449, you just need to read up on evolution. If you haven't taken Biology in highschool, you probably don't know much about evolution.

Don't believe what the media has to say.

Don't assume. Know.

So when did Jesus say we all aren't sons (and daughters) of God?

Yeah he said that we are all sons of god and can do what he does......

2000 years later he has been proven wrong. Ever seen a person walk on water, raise the dead, or shit ice cream (not sure if JC did the last one:) )?

The bible says he gave his only begotten son to die for our sins.

Another contradictory over generalized piece of shit from the bible that can support two opposing views. The bible is truly useless.

Ron Barassi in the 2006 Queen's Baton Race showed the effect of walking on water is certaintly achievable.

Tetrodoxin is a neurotoxin which, if it does not kill, leaves people in a near-death like state for a few days until they recover.

Also, I'm sure one day you'll realize how metaphors can have uses.

Check out the cyclic theory. It's a theory explaining the beginning of the universe, only it explains what happens before the universe started. I read a book about it called Endless Universe. The theory is still in its early stages, but the facts relating to it were enough to make me comfortable with the fact that I don't believe in a god figure.
