I'm a 1st year japanese student at my local university. One thing that has ALWAYS helped me learn anything is video games. i dont know why, but things just seem to click better.

does anyone out there know of a decent game that uses mainly hiragana and katakana? Kanji is held off till third year here, so yeah :(

as far as the game goes, i really dont mind paying for quality

Any game aimed at children in Japan uses only kanas.

At least I think so.

Unfortunately, you may be stuck with childrens games.

'Childrens games' makes it sound bad.

I have an old pokemon red gameboy cartridge that's entirely in kanas. I'm sure there are a lot of pretty good RPGs without kanji.

You should try Pokémon, it's not that bad as a game and you'll learn something.
Just don't go around writing "What the Bulbasaur just happened?" or something. :D
