View Full Version : Why are religious people constantly turning out to be gay? (Serious debate)

I am an atheist, and i actually do have quite a few people I know who are religious (mostly christian)
lately two girls in particular that I know, who are both super christian have told me that theyre having feelings for other girls.
Now, this is also backed up by the seemingly constant waterfall of gay priests, and my personal theory is that they are SO sexually oppressed, that eventually they just burst and become almost OVERLY curious.
I was just interested in what others had to say? This latest girl coming out was a shock to me due to her very rigid chrisitan beliefs, but that was my theory.
Thoughts?

Either that or they are actually gay, and they try to repress it with religion.

I think this is just a case of correlation, not causation: for there are more religious people than nonreligious people, so it only seems natural that a vast amount of homosexuals are going to be in the former category, rather than the latter.

I agree with that. You hear more about a priest admitting homosexuality b/c it is seen as scandalous. The news probably won't report when a broadway show producer or famous hairstylist comes out of the closet.
I would also attribute the religion itself for shaming closet homosexuals into joining their religion to help them. The religion is very sexually repressive but I do not think that alone will turn somebody gay. I think it will lead to sexual deviancy, like starvation can turn a person into a cannibal, but homosexuality is more a product of nature than nurture.

Personally I think people don't chose to be gay because the n people ever decide to be straight. I figure you hear more about priests and such because it is scandoulus. Like the above poster you don't hear about a hairdresser coming out. It is probely about even statisticly if not tipped in favor for the average person. Silimlar to the priests that rape kids. Teachers are far more statisticly speaking probable of being pedos. Its's just that priests are supposed to be pure and good and when they aren't it makes the news.

In psychology, this is known as a reaction formation:
A young gay man, raised in an Evangelical environment has trouble coming to grips with who he really is. Nobody around him will accept his homosexuality, so he feels he must bury it under a blanket of counterfeit religious zeal. He tries to be the exact opposite of himself and decides to become a Fundamentalist preacher. Of course, he's still gay, just suppressing his desires and living in a torturous state of denial.
After a while, he can no longer take his deprivation of boy-ass. He finds a male prostitute, and invites him home for some gold ol' fashioned ass reaming. His wife comes home and finds him balls deep. Hilarity ensues and it's fucking gold.

Being gay should NOT be looked down or frowned upon, chritians/islamists dont know what it is.
Homosexuality is something which is very SACRED.
Its from where everything starts, even the evolution of MAN.
Man was homosexual, will be and will always be.

Every type? Even fucking Crocodiles? Lions? Children? Bestiality is a type of sex correct? So is having sex with children. You have one fucked up religion.
You don't have to use your religious beliefs to justify being gay. Everyone doesn't have to be gay for you to be comfortable being gay. Just be gay, dude.

Bisexuality is normal human behavior, most either choose to be straight or gay though. Men are even designed biologically to be bi, but I'm not going to start banging my bros. any time soon.
As for religion breeding gays, it sure does. Then again, gays create gays in men who aren't self assured. When someone is gay, others must question their own sexuality which leads to experimentation. If its enjoyable people assume they are, when in reality sex is good in any tight hole. We all choose to be who we are.
Men are even designed biologically to be bi,
Planning on providing any evidence for that claim?

In reality, sexuality is far more complicated than "everyone is bisexual". Apparently there is a wide spectrum, and you will very rarely find people either in the middle or 100% gay or straight. Truth be told, I think that a lot of todays bisexuals are just "straight" people who are now comfortable with admitting that they fantasize about gay sex.
If its enjoyable people assume they are, when in reality sex is good in any tight hole.
I am not saying you are, but if you think homosexuality is about rendezvous at the park toilets, then you are sorely mistaken. Most people seem to have this misconception, when in reality there is far more to homosexuality than enjoying sex with people of the same sex. They have the same kind of feelings as straight people do for someone who they want to settle down and make a life with.

I didn't have time to go into depth about what I said at the time. I meant that our brains have evolved to have emotional attachment with both men and women as well as sexual attraction. It goes back to a long time ago when man was first evolving. A big part about maintaining peace and civility is reigning in sexual urges. Men who would hunt for weeks on end established emotional and sexual bonds with each other, as well as women who would be back at the camp taking care of children. The tribes that adopted this used it to bind the tribe together, and as a result this adaptation prospered in the genes along with the tribes.

Its the "Don't Do This and We Do It" Theory in motion. Have you ever been told don't look and you want to (maybe even) look or just out of sheer curiosity want to know why not to look? Same thing goes for homosexuality and exclusive religions that set stupid dogma to control you and making you sexually frustrated. Read 1984 I believe, sexual frustration has people being more controlled in that book! Same goes for religions that denounce sexuality as sinful instead of part of God's plan.

Again, do you have any evidence of these "bisexual bonds"? If not, then you can't really say that.
You're falling for the trap of thinking that just because you've hypothesized that a behavior might be beneficial to a species, it must have happened. You don't know that at all.

Calling out abominations is God's job, not mine. Letting someone know they've had a positive impact on my day IS part of my job. :)
People who are repressed religiously tend to come out more strongly when finally freed. There was an interesting experiment done on this:
