Disapprove me.
Iam starting to like hinduism a LOT, i mean a LOT. Fully freedom of expression. You can be a atheist hindu, yeah man.
some hindu's are actually atheists.
You choose your OWN GOD. yeah.
No one forces jesus or mohammed on YOU.
Hindu people are very humble and they are open minded not like fundamentalist christians.
I call for a LONG hinduism debate.

Do you get a free keyring?
Seriously tho I think Indian religeons are tip top but your opening thread inspires nothing from me.
You're just talking about pros and cons rather than what the religion is.

Okay. What about the Hindu Fundamentalist who killed Ghandi? Where are your sources for this? What does Hinduism say about women's rights?

Gandhi was a cheap bastard.
Women's rights? They were the TOP priests/ sadhus in the face of the earth.
people seem to relate sages to men, while the greatest of them were women.
Also in this thread, you can ASK ME, anything related to GOD, LIFE, etc., and i will try to clear your doubts.

Well personally i also like sikhism, but i like dvaita part of hinduism the most.
dvaita = duality.
So far this is best religion on the face of the earth.
Advaita which says god and human spirit is ONE at the highest doesnt interest me much, because i have my own reasoning for that.

The caste system of Hinduism puts an unjust class order in society... No surprise, labourers are at the bottom and priests are on the top. Who is second place? Warriors and rulers. Religion of Peace? HA!
Okay, it is better than Christianity, Judaism and Islam....but since when the hhell was that an accomplishment? Just so you know, I'm eating a nice beef sandwich right now :p

Please moderate your language, lest it be moderated.
Strong language is appropriate for strong feelings, to be sure, but name-calling is not.
I intend to work with AF and come up with some guidelines for deportment here. If you must flame someone, we have other forums devoted to that.

I think you do not understand that humankind will not be free until the last king is strangled with the entrails of the last priest.
Hinduism was pseudo-science or perhaps a sort of proto-science like some philosophy and other religion contributed to science. Hinduism has never been nor ever will be science.
Fuck caste systems. This religion is more about social control than reincarnation. You are a fucking imbecile for failing to see that.
Now call me a cuntface and tell everyone how many months ago your balls dropped little fella.

What is up with that entrails thing? This is like the third time in a week I have seen that quote. Icky.
Of course Hinduism is not science. Neither is Christian Science, which isn't really Christian, either. Science is science; religion, religion.
However, western science--at least some of the quantum physics and string theory part--IS starting to sound more and more like mysticism in general, and eastern religion in particular.

I agree. String theory and some quantum physics is out there, but science recognizes where it has merit and where it is lacking. I wouldn't go as far as to compare it to religion, however. There is at the very least, a minute amount of evidence for quantum and string.
The entraills quote came from a french philosopher, whose name I cannot recall right now. I think maybe he was a historian or anthropologist.
It is just a point, that to speak of freedom whilst answering to a king or a very pious person's overactive imagination, is foolish. The caste system in hinduism turns whatever good points the religion might have as far as philosophy goes, into nothing more than another tool for very strict social control.
Giving your freedom or free will and thought up to a mortal man in the name of the mortal's imagination is folly, and hinduism represents this almost without equal.

You all are missing the point. Hinduism is NOT a religion. They do not believe in religion and the ones that say it is do not truly understand it.

Hinduism is a religious tradition[1] that originated in the Indian subcontinent. Hinduism is often referred to as Sanātana Dharma (सनातन धर्म) by its practitioners, a Sanskrit phrase meaning "the eternal law".[2]
Hinduism is the world's oldest major religion that is still practiced.[3][4] Its earliest origins can be traced to the ancient Vedic civilization.[5] A conglomerate of diverse beliefs and traditions, Hinduism has no single founder.[6][7] It is the world's third largest religion following Christianity and Islam, with approximately a billion adherents, of whom about 905 million live in India and Nepal.[
From our good friends at Wiki. They sure use the word religion a lot for something that is not a religion.
It is a religion. It has different and smaller denominations like many larger RELIGIONS do. One of these offshoot cults may try to maintain that hinduism is not a religion, but it seems hinduism falls under this definition:
A religion is a set of common beliefs and practices generally held by a group of people, often codified as prayer, ritual, and religious law. Religion also encompasses ancestral or cultural traditions, writings, history, and mythology, as well as personal faith and mystic experience. The term "religion" refers to both the personal practices related to communal faith and to group rituals and communication stemming from shared conviction.
Again thanks to your friend and mine....wiki.

To be clear, ArmsMerchant and I come from two different schools of thought on the subject of flaming.
To call someone a CUNTFACE, in my opinion, is no less or worse than calling someone a "fucking moron", something all of us have succumbed to out of anger, frustration, or just plain exasperation.
Being a constant flamer who doles out expletives and insults to anyone they engage in conversation with soon loses the respect of their peers, and are likely to be put on ignore, never to be responded to again. IMO, that serves as a far greater punishment than having a few infraction points rack up in their user profile.
That said, repeatedly disrupting conversation or consistently badgering the same person with off-topic, thoughtless insults in multiple threads here WILL get your comments *deported*. Returning here with the same derogatory comments and badgering AFTER your content has been moved, edited or deleted WILL get you infracted.
I've never had to infract a user in this forum for that kind of thing - usually people can moderate themselves. ArmsMerchant isn't an unreasonable fellow - although I wouldn't put his patience to the test by ignoring his already generous warning, swissblade.
And here's a ProTip: There are far more imaginative ways to be enthusiastic about your rebuttals without having to rely on something as tacky as "cuntface". If you're sincerely trying to educate people about Hinduism, you're certainly not going to capture an audience by flipping out every time someone disagrees with you. A simple "No, Fuck YOU" in response to shitty wok's first blow directed towards you would have sufficed.
Above all, I hope you can continue to offer up your opinions about Hinduism here. As a religion, it's been pretty under-represented in this forum.

One of the more admirable things about the religon, I think, is that it actually walks the walk regarding the infinite nature of God. Western religions give lip service to the notion that God is infinite--but their conception of God tends to be narrow, and limited.
More and more of us today see God as a universal consciousness which sort of holds everything together. A scietist might call this the unified field; a redskin might call it the Great Spirit. Same thing. But I digress.
If you accept the reasonable notion that God is in all things, it makes as much sense to worship a snake as a crucifix.

I used to be a hindu for a while. I had a rigurous daily sadhana for a year or so. But then I stopped because I realized it was actually pushing me away from my goal to do it so much, and neglect all else. Plus I didn't really want to end the game so soon by attaining liberation.
So now I'm broadly a pandeist. I still do energy work, and various yogic excercises, etc., but focus on other personal goals too.

The coming of the Aquarian Age certainly gave it a jump-start, but the notion has been around a looong time. New Agers are saying what the ancient Hermetic magicians said, what the old-time Sufis and Kabballahists (sp?) said, and what Chrisitan mystics like St Theresa and St John of the Cross said, as well as the usual bunch of shamans and weird holy men.
