What language would be best for reading old books the way they were written? I'm kind of leaning towards Icelandic maybe, but suggestions would be wondaful.

When you say old books, I'm assuming you mean ancient or at least very old books. You have to keep in mind that the language back then was different from today. Also, I don't know why you would learn an ancient language to read ancient books for entertainment when there are books which are far more interesting today.
