I know this isn't the right place, but I'm just looking for a general quick response. :p

So yeah, if I wanted to learn a new language, what would be the best way to go about it? I've seen stuff advertise on the telly about RosettaStone and other stuff like that, whether or not they're any good or not, I dunno.

So, thanks for any replies :D

Move to that country and put yourself in a position where you cant get anything without speaking the language. You will learn.. or die

Move to the country. I lived in Argentina for 4 months, and even though I wasn't obligated to speak it because I worked in an English company, and most of my friends were english. Just walking around on the streets and having to talk it every now and then makes you remind it much faster. I'm sure if you have no choise but to talk it that you'd speak it perfectly in 4-6 months.

Well, you have text based learning-books, and other stuff-to help you learn a language. I find that this doesn't help to much in my case, as I can only learn a tourist level of the language I'm trying to learn before quitting.

Audio based learning-rosetta stone, tapes-helps me remember better, and it helps with pronunciation as you can hear the word being said instead of trying to pronounce words you read in a book. I've said this before: Torrents are your best friends when you want a free audio learning program. ;)

I find that it is very hard to keep going with a language when you have no one to practice with, so you might want to move to the country that speaks a language you are learning. But sometimes you can't just pack up and move. In this case, you should try and find some penpals, they are easy to find off of penpal sites.

Hope this helps.
