Or Ammonium Dichromate.
We did some experiments in chem lab a few weeks ago with this and among them was lighting it by putting it in a test tube under a fume hood and holding it to a Bunsen burner. Curiously, it did not require an open flame to ignite.
Which leads me to ask three things,
1. Would the reaction be different if exposed to an open flame?
2. Where has it been used in pyrotechnics?
3. Is it reasonably safe to have or easy to get/make?

It doesn't combust, it decomposes (primarely the reduction of chrome)
I believe it's used in some "snake" compositions, check the database.
I do not recomment handling (di)chromic acid, which is required for the synthesis.
Here's why (http://www.ilo.org/public/english/protection/safework/cis/products/icsc/dtasht/_icsc11/icsc1194.htm)

Or you could use a Di Chromate salt and replace it (though I don't recall what ammonia can replace). Anything with Chromium salts is toxic though.

All I really know about it is that it is VERY GOD DAMN FUCKING SEXY, yet toxic and not used that much. I fucking love that shit I got some its such a fucking sexy orange, most chromate compounds are sexy that ive seen. Its pretty toxic and as far as pyro use not very much at all. Only reason I got it was becuase it was so fucking sexy looking and free and just one more thing for the collection.

The colors are pretty sweet, I guess thats why they use it in dyes sometimes.

Hm, i knew it was toxic, but not that toxic! Yeah, we did all the experiments under a fime hood. Originally i thought it was just so the ash shooting out of the test tube wouldn't hit anyone, but gdamn that stuff could be lethal if you mess up.
I've got a whole bunch of Ammonium dichromate, and a little bit of Potassium Dichromate. My department at school has a huge 10 lb jug of it that we use for volcano demonstrations and stuff like that. It's a cool chem., not really expensive, and you can do a lot of expermenting with it. I turned the Ammonium dichromate into chromium oxide, and then i reduced it to get pure chromium metal. If anything else, it looks cool in your collection.

Well im a dumbass, what I have is actually potassium dichromate but still same shit applies. But I haven't tried the dichromate volcano but from what ive seen they are pretty bad ass but not much cool pyro shit else you can do with it.

Now you can see why i love this chemical.

Imagine that on a much larger scale in a salute.

You don't want to confine it.
more like a potato-sack setup ...
Ohthe ideas for locations and pranks ... :D

Animal tests show that this substance possibly causes toxicity to human reproduction or development.
ie. your balls will shrivel up

Lulz, I picked chemistry for school, I fail so hard.
I don't even know how to do ionic formulas yet.
Someone fucking teach me. THREAD HIJACK.

Bullshit for show, MSDS & usual lapdogs "experts" love to stress how "omfg a substance is dangerous".
For example i once accidentally huffed a moderate dose of HCN. Didn't die, headached like all hell for about 20 mins (took isopropyl nitrite as countermeasure).
According to all the bullshit gov' agencies put on the net, i should have died and everyone in the block too !

MSDS authors have got liabilities to think about too. :p
