I hate when people tattoo asian characters to themselves because.
1 - They are not asian, how many asians do you see with english on their arms?
2 - Its the biggest cop out for a "meaningful" tattoo. Seriously, draw a fucking picture or an emblem or something.
3 - Most of the people have no affiliation with the language at all, don't understand it at all, and most of the tattooists don't have a clue on how the kanji that they are drawing is supposed to flow.
I always picture asian tourists laughing at the ridiculous things people have written on themselves in their language.

actually asians love english. at the moment the biggest trend is to have english writing on ur clothes. funny thing is just like an idiot will get unknow phrases tatted on them. chinese will wear bootleg clothes with the text backwards upside down or horribly misspelled. i'm talkin random Qs and Xs an shit.

I once ran into a chinese guy at the midi festival in beijing who had a swastica, and SS lightning bolts tatood on his arm. I asked him if he knew what it meant, but he wasn't sure. he just said that his freinds said it was a cool design. I am with anyone who says that chinese tatoos are stupid, but I am also saying that it is not just a western phenomenon. I have travelled all over asia, and I have lived in beijing for a year. I speak conversational mandarin, but comming home, and looking at the tattoos I had a few good laughs. The main thing is that at least mandarin is a minefield to translate propperly. the chinese express ideas, and feelings somewhat vaguely, or something along those lines. In america everybody expresses themself very exact, and litterally. ahh my spelling is fucked because I am drunk, but the main idea is that chinese tattoos are not a good idea on one level because you are not from that culture and have no understanding of what it means..
