I'm 21 and basically haven't been to school since I was 14. I've been until almost age 17, but you know what I mean, mine as well not have. I've just started at a c.c. and am taking 16 credit hours. Intro to Psych, Math 107[Basic-Inter. Algebra(h.s. shit,)] Chem 125(supposedly H.S., but my sister who's pre-med says it harder), and Comp 1.

I have HORRIBLE anxiety which in turn causes a terrible procrastination problem. I am not depressed, and have recently began a medication regimen to help with it. I'm not doing to bad, I think, but I will know a lot more tomorrow and Wednesday.

My problem: I have such a hard time sitting down and doing hw. I have F-M off from class and I strictly told myself that I was going to do at least a little something everyday. Well I put it all of and didn't do shit until today; not near what I should of though. Sucks. I'm so use to sitting around not doing shit.

I haven't had it to bad yet because all I really know how to do is CRAM, and am pretty good at it. Just...fuck. I'm never getting into a self-paced math class again, I just don't have the discipline for it. I've yet to not turn in an assignment by the d.d., but usually do them all that day or the one prior.

I know everyones gonna tell me to man up and shit, which I'm doing. I'm getting better, but not good enough, or near where I want to be. What helps you guys or w/e? Especially from anybody who had been out of school for a while and started back up. I got it easy too, no job, kids, g/f(VERY soon though.) Just w/e tid-bit you got I'd be more then thankful.

procrastination is something i think mostly everyone faces. hell, i'm facing it right now. i got two midterms this week i haven't studied for at all, it's 3 AM, and instead of getting some sleep, i'm stopping by totse. why? who knows?

some people work better under pressure, procrastinating until the last minute. i don't know if i'm one of those people, but i manage to get by pretty well.

short of making yourself sit down and focus on doing work for a set amount of time each day, there aren't any special tricks to this. i think once you get going with a routine though, it'll get easier. it's just like anything else that takes self discipline.

I have a problem with that. I also have a problem with taking a longer time if the problem/whatever is too easy or obvious or I have a lot of time and I end up just staring and not focusing my efforts.

Don't stay home go somewhere like a library or anything besides your comfortable home where you relax. Just get out of the fucking house and all will fall into place.

The key is adjusting your mind set and studying for a fixed time everyday. Make sure you record how much you study. If you think out how much you need to know and make a schedule that fits that need then you should be alright.

This.

When ever I need to work on something (usually the day before its due) I just go to my school's library where almost every non-academic website is blocked and do whatever needs to get done.

your college blocks websites? wtf?

and i sometimes end up taking my laptop and getting online through wireless...and end up at totse. even at the library. best to leave the computer at home.

The suggestions mentioned above are mostly good. I would add, though, that ultimately the motivation to work through all of your homework and study time must come from within. You have to actually _want_ to do it, for one reason or another. That reason may be as simple as the personal accomplishment of getting a good grade on the assignment, or as far-reaching as eventually graduating to get a better job & a better standard of living. But either way, you should try to identify exactly why you're in college, and what you want to get out of it. Goal setting can seem cliche and pointless, but in a case like this it may be just what you need. Try to figure out what it is, deep down, that you want to accomplish, and then try to visualize how all of the smaller, less enjoyable tasks along the way help to fulfill that underlying desire. That will either help alleviate the procrastination through increased motivation, or will let you know that maybe college just really isn't for you after all.

Each one of us have different kinds of study habits and if you think that you are better of in doing cramming, I guess its fine and you don't really have to worry about it. However, it is also good if you try doing things way before the deadline or in advance just to see if you are better off doing that.
As for me, I have two upcoming tests this week not to mention graded recitation and those paper requirements... and also a class report which I just remembered as of the moment. Yet, here I am giving someone an advice on procrastination. Haha! If you ask me, I am not really a pure crammer. Sometimes, I do things way ahead of time so as to avoid sleepless nights...

those were really good. I also feel that my procrastination is becoming chronic and damaging. I'm going to try to follow those.
