Actually, the teams left Fairbanks about an hour ago, in minus 30 degree F weather, on the first leg of a 1000-mile sled dog race.

Weekend lows are predicted to be 45-60 below.

This just in--Lance Mackey, who made history last year by winning the Quest AND the Iditarod back to back (the two toughest sled dog races in the world) has a two-hour lead over the number two team run by his neighbor Ken Anderson. He should hit the Eagle checkpoint around noon for a mandatory four-hour layover.

His team inludes about half a dozen of the same dogs that ran his "Iditaquest" last year, including Larry and Zorro.
