View Full Version : Why?

I have asked Jesus to save me. I have tried to live better to find him. I have read the bible, ive gone to churches, and yet.... I have not found God. Christianity does not make sense to me, but I try to have faith, and still, nothing. Surely, God will not let me live the life of a sinner only to go to hell if he loves me?

So why am I not being saved?

Because "saved" is an arbitrary concept.

You desire salvation when you've yet to be damned. As God has said to another in your situation: "My Grace is sufficient for you."

If in the future you find yourself living an absolutely intolerable life, ruled by desires for the flesh with no ability of your own to turn back, it is then that you require God's Salvation. Until then, His Grace alone will carry you through.

because you have a brain.

but really, without any more cheap shots at christianity, here's why.

The first step to being saved is hearing the word of god, so you can realized that you're lost. Then you must believe that Jesus was the son of god... obviously, because if you didn't believe that you would go to hell and that's not salvation. Third step is to repent. You have to realize that you've sinned and you have to change your ways. But if you try too hard, and with the intention of being saved, you might die. But it's okay, if you die for Jesus, you have a get out of hell free pass. You're more than halfway there when you confess your belief. But somebody has to be there to witness it, because god is too busy doing other things to listen to you. After that you have to get baptized. By the meaning of the word, you're supposed to be fully immersed. This is where most people mess up. Raise your hand if you were nearly drowned as a baby when you were baptized. Most people just get water poured on their face. Anyway, to truly be saved, you have to follow the examples set by the bible and go completely underwater. I can't find a rule against nose plugs though. Finally, you have to remain faithful. Being saved once doesn't mean you'll be saved forever. If you stop being faithful you'll have to do it all over again.

So... to all you newly saved people out there... tell me, were you baptized? If not, you're probably still going to hell. Try reading the bible before believing it. Basically, you cannot think logically and be saved. You can't ask questions about contradictions in the bible, you can't pick and choose which parts to take literally and which to take figuratively, and you can't have your own opinion about it if it contradicts christ's teachings in any way. So yeah, you couldn't be saved because you use your thought process.

The entire book of Proverbs is directed towards the searching for wisdom and understanding. We are told to ask for wisdom; not to blindly pretend as if a gap in our understanding doesn't exist!

You have the ability to be 'saved' within yourself.

I've never read the bible, probably never will. It just doesn't appeal to my way of learning.

The pertinent question here, OP, is "save you from what"? Hell, Satan and all that are myths. The only enemy you have is fear, and you have that in abundance, it seems.

Remember, the Nazz said that the kingdom of God is within you. God is not the petty, anthropomorphic deity portrayed in the Old Testament, but rather a force, a conscious field of energy and information that permeates everything and everyone. Scientists might call this the Unified Field; others might call it the Holy Spirit. It is within you, as it is within all of us.

I tell you this, all the love and strength and compassion you will ever need is within you--right now. You need only go within, find it, and own it.

If you do not go within, you will surely go without.

In the words of St. Francis of Assisi "What You Are Looking for Is What Is Looking." Think about that deeply, remember what is looking is not Ego but rises above it.

Because you don't need it. You are not going to hell or heaven. Just live life with love. You don't need a prophet to tell you how to love, though I can't deny that many of jesus' teachings a great but many of them are also fucked up.

Try some eastern thought.

You have not bought into the belief structure enough. I am curious...who introduced you to this religion? Was it so early you cannot even remember a world without "God"? You have an oppurtunity to rid yourself of this meme.

Look, I have been a full fledged hard line atheist for almost 2 years now. I have had a great amount of success and there have been no problems in my life that having an imaginary friend would have made any easier.

One of my initial fears in my non-belief was retribution from God. Did not happen. I know it sounds ridiculous (and it fucking is) to believe that something as intangible as God could fuck up my good shit.

If this is a fear you have in leaving the flock, rest assured it is an unwarrented one.

And never forget (just in case) Deathbed Repentance FTW.
