My state is clearly infested with religioius ne'er do-wells and miscreants.

First the West Memphis 3 witch hunt, then our evangelical Governor answering God's calling by taking a stab at the Presidency, now this!

Do you guys know who Tony Alamo (http://www.alamoministries.com/) is? He's an evangelical, catholic-hating, polygamy-loving, mass-suicide touting, bible-thumping madman. He's decided to come back home to Arkansas after his prison stint was completed. Though he hasn't yet resorted back to re-opening his "non-profit" church-based rhinestone jacket business where those in his congregation work slave labor for $10 a week, he's already building his compound back up. If you can imagine a church that requires armed guards to stand at it's doors to stave of "interlopers", then you've got a pretty clear picture of Tony Alamo's ministry. He also has a blatant disregard for the statutory rape laws of this state:

“God commanded young women to marry. And when women start their periods, then they are women, according to God's Word.” His sermons go on to say, “Women should be able to marry if they have someone who has a job and can support them. They should be able to be married at 13-, 14-, or 15-years old, or if they have menstruated, at 12-years old."

He's 73 years old and not in the greatest of health. I'll wager any one of you here that he plans on going out with a huge bang, all in the name of his service to his Lord. Just you hide, and watch! He believes he's a prophet appointed from on high:

When the voice of God is speaking through members of the body of Christ, God’s church here on earth, even the angels in Heaven know they must listen. Every genuine member of the body of Christ is a confessor of the true God, one in whose confession the will and purpose of God in Christ Jesus is both testified and prophesied of.47 This means every genuine Christian is a real prophet that God continuously speaks through. Every genuine Christian is a true career Christian. They are Christian confessors who prophesy against the wickedness of the world, who prophesy on the necessity of godliness, and who prophesy on the way to salvation in Christ, which is Christ living and working both in us and through us by faith.48

Some people take issue with the fact that God, Jesus, myself, and other saints of God make known the wickedness of the world that needs reproving. Those who say such things are not members of God’s church. They are not prophets. They are either those who need to be saved and will be saved, or those who will surely be destroyed, those who will be rejected by God, then cast into Hell for eternity in the lake of fire.49
In his own words (http://www.alamoministries.com/content/english/Gospel_literature/evilinternational.html)

Hence why the Roman Catholic Church is so firmly against the tide of Gnosticism (The Da Vinci Code... Nag Hammadi Library... Dead Sea Scrolls... Etc) because, the Gnostic's were right there really is a world covered up by the world. All the words of the Gnostic's that if read by everyone in the whole world would emancipate them from the world of control set up by the NWO Powers that Be.

This guy is obviously a nut.

What I wouldn't give for the time to post thread after thread containing information about all the crazy nuts from every other religion, including atheism (I believe that it is a religion, based on the definition (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/religion) [see #3 and #6] of the word...because they do exist.

3. the body of persons adhering to a particular set of beliefs and practices
It's not a belief. It's a non-belief. And what do we practice, exactly? Avoiding religion? How is avoiding religion deemed a religious practice?

6. something one believes in and follows devotedly; a point or matter of ethics or conscience

I'm not devoted to atheism. I haven't consecrated my ideals into a code of personal ethics grounded in moral decisions. I had the same moral principles as a Christian as I did as a non-believer.

We don't call those who don't fancy sports athletes, nor do we call those who don't vote or don't participate in civic issues political ... so why are we trying to re-define atheists into being people of religion?

If you ever do find the time to sit and post about the antics of atheists who are a scab on society, those who purposefully rip off the public, amass huge congregations and impose their will onto others as if it's the LAW, who cluster into groups that worship and give sanctimony to a central figure that is the ultimate, unarguable authority over all of mankind ... then please make sure and highlight the part where they do it in the name of atheism.

*winks @ Digital*

Tony Alamo is a dangerous man, can we agree on that? Tony Alamo perverts the Christian code, yet believes that he's a mouthpiece of the Christian God. Does that not piss you off? And most of all, he practices his tomfoolery and corruption all in the name of religion. Am I an insensitive dolt for pointing it out, and making others aware of this scam?

You'll read about Tony Alamo in the newspapers again, soon. He'll likely make national headlines (once again). Just remember: You heard it here FIRST! :)

Not even that, since some atheists do belong to religions, such as Buddhism. You are thinking of antitheism. But yes, it is just a single disbelief, so I get a sense of projection from DS's post. :p

"Tony Alamo" has gotta be a made-up name, right?

I'm betting the name on the dude's BC is more like "Oswald Cobblepotts."

His actual birth name is Bernie LaZar Hoffman. He took Tony Alamo as a stage name when he was a singer.

Here's a photo of him and his late wife. (http://www.alamoministries.com/content/english/testimonytracts/signsofthetimes.html) This was obviously taken back in the '70's.

And let them run me out of my region? Not a chance, BP. I'll be the last heretic standing in the South.

Hopefully he will suffer a stroke or a massive heart attack before be gets the chance to take others with him on his journey to oblivion.

I seem to recall you having a similar problem with the definition of *Theory* as used in a scientific context. Is it honestly difficult for you to grasp that atheism is not a religion, or are you simply unwilling/unable to accept the fact?

The south is filled with Baptist, Evangelical, Fundamentalist nutjobs who give religion a bad name... These people will never find the truth if they continue to listen to a fundamentalist televangelist Christian who is ignorant by his own omission.

Say, didn't this kind of nuttery led up to The Waco Siege?

As old as Alamo is, I'm thinking more like ... Jonestown. He's not going to trust his parishioners to keep "fighting the good fight" after he expires. And since he probably doesn't even subscribe to his own Pie-in-the-Sky preachings, he's probably already fairly certain that he won't be ruling over his roost from Heaven. He'll probably just opt to take everybody out with him when he goes.

One small quibble--with all due respect, I think you are more an infidel than a heretic, which means the Inquisition would tend to go easier on you.

Than again, what do I know? I'm just a simple country witch doctor.

He wants pre-teen pussy because he is a sick bastard who gets off on fucking young, underage girls. He just uses his religion to justify his disgusting sexual urges so he isn't labeled a pedophile either in his own mind or by his congregation.

Edit:
- He warps his religion to justify his urges

Tony Alamo Compound Raided In Sex Investigation! (http://arkansasmatters.com/content/fulltext/?cid=116521)

Watch, they'll justify anything they're charged with as being inspired by JESUS and the state will be DOING THE DEVIL'S WORK for causing inconvenience to the church and interrupting it's god-driven deeds.
