Dubs?
I don't know about you guys but I don't want to read when I'm watching my cartoons. It makes it more enjoyable for me at least.
So what exactly is wrong with dubs?

Some dubs are ok, but a lot have really annoying voices. Seriously, a lot of animes I have to watch subbed because the dubs make me want to point a gun in my ear and shoot.

Yeah that's kind of how I feel too. Some series are better cut out for dubs than others.
Guess I just have a stereotypical image of anime watchers in my head, but I'm sure that stereotype is true when it comes to some fans.

Some dubs are good, like Hellsing and Cowboy Bebop. Others we don't talk about, like Naruto and One Piece. It's more your personal preference, but the actual Japanese language just sounds better with the anime.
Not to mention that the alredy worthless lipsyncing becomes more worthless.

The Hellsing dub is an enigma to me. I mean, they're in England right? So you'd want some English being spoken. That being said, "police girl's" voice pissed me off.

Watch the american dub of One Piece, then watch the original Japanese, and you'll get the point.

I tried watching Death note subbed. It's the equivalent of getting your dick stuck in a lawnmower.
That being said, it depends on the series. :)

I generally prefer all foreign film media to be subtitled. Too much tends to be lost in a dub, unless it's one of those higher-profile dubs with professional actors backing the voices (which are rare,) and even then some aspects of the original culture and such are often lost in translation... so I tend to prefer the subbed version. It's closer to how the story was originally intended to be told.
In the case of anime, my theory is that there is not as big of a market over here for voice actors. You hear the same damn people doing the voices for like every show, and 90% of the time the North American voices are unemotive and annoying, and just make anime seem more like a kid's show (due to them using the same uninspired VA's all the time, the same VA's who also seem to do the voicework for lots of crappy kids TV shows/cartoons...)
Anime is a somewhat more respected storytelling medium in Japan, so naturally there would be more skilled voice actors over there.
Again and again I will state that I prefer the subs because THAT WAS HOW IT WAS ORIGINALLY INTENDED TO BE VIEWED!
The emotions, the dialogue, the acting... it's so much better in it's original language. This goes for any foreign media for me, not just anime. I just have to watch it in it's original form as it was intended... When you dub it, you take away the original direction the director input thus changing the media.
There ARE exceptions, although very few... they're still there.
The DBZ dub was better, the Cowboy Bebop dub was better are some notable examples.
Akira dub was good, but the Japanese one is good too. I can go either way on that one.
Princess Mononoke, I preferred the Dub. It was done by pros, it was pro.

Almost all Studio Ghibli films are great dubs.

Dubs?
It depends...often I would use both, sometimes I watch subs and dubs; it depends. Often the dubs are mormonized (E.g. censored to fuck. e.g. in Gundam Seed, when Mwu La Fllage says 'damn' on the subs, the dubs says 'crap' etc.

I personally like to hear the original japanese voice, it's more... original haha.. I just like to see/hear things the way they were meant to be shown(hence why I barely watch anime, just read manga). Especially in Miyazaki movies, with that old lady. Her voice is just so-so in the dubs, but with the japanese voice you get a better sense of her character.
All that ontop of the fact that when they dub into english, somtimes they change anything controversial. With subtitles I find that they get alot closer to the real japanese translation, instead of changing what was originally supposed to be said. I don't mind pausing every once in a while, or even rewinding to re-watch certain scenes without reading.

Haha, bet you guys have never watched the real crappy dubs - that's when the real voices are just levelled down, and on top of them you hear one man, trying to speak as monotonically as possible, voicing both the males, the females, the children etc.
Now I know that's technically not a dub, but it was awesome anyway.

I have only seen those in Russian - here's one, from the early 90s I think: http://ru.youtube.com/watch?v=L1eDL8KXNps
And yes, millions of people watched that.

They always sound better in their original Japanese voices, not the Americanized ones.
Because the american voice actors usually sound as if they're sitting around a table rehearsing the script.

Ugh - I hate this. Try imagining having everything on TV like this. I moved to Poland and literally EVERY foreign series is like this. It is called a "Lector". I hated dubs - but I love dubs after this shit - seriously.
I understand a bit of Polish, but it is impossible to follow when you still hear the English somewhere on the background. But the worst about it is that there is absolutely no emotion going on.
Imagine -not anime- The Boondock Saints. You've got the scene when Rocko goes like: WTF! FUCKING FUCK! FUUUUCCKKK!!
Lector: Fuck....... No. What the fuck. Fuck.
No emotion...
