If you are a Christian and thinking of posting here there are a few things you will need to educate yourself to prevent coming off as an emotionally crippled ignoramus.

First: Look up the Burden of proof. Define it. Understand it. Love it.

Second: Look up common primate ancestor. Understand that.

Third: Read your bible.

I can't stress that third one enough, because it must be embarassing for some of you Christians to come here and post some silly thought from the bible you read in your religious pamphlet this week, only to have your ass handed to you in scathing remarks made about the validity of your claim, using the very same book you used to affirm your faith.

I would add a corollary to number three--read more than one translation. Although I usually quote the KJV--I was an English major and I like the language--it is probably the least sound and accurate translation.

And read some of the many books coming out from scholars who have closely looked at the original Greek and Aramaic texts.

And read the gospel of Thomas, the gospel of Mary, and the gospel of Judas.

1. Why would I care what I'm seen as?

You care what you are seen as because you wish for your arguments to be taken seriously. If one is perceived to be ignorant or a nutcase, his/her arguments are usually discounted as being worthless.

2. Why would the burden of proof matter in the question of faith?

Because holding to belief in something in spite of evidence which disproves said belief, shows that one is incapable of being intellectually honest. Faith is not a virtue. It is simply an excuse for * believing in something that you know ain't so*.

3. What does evolution have to do with love?

Absolutely nothing. Evolution (along with astronomy, geology, modern biology, etc.) simply disproves the inerrancy of the bible.

4. What does reading a book have to do with love?

Better question : What does the bible really have to do with love?

Think about it seriously. The majority of the OT is all about God's two passions: Real Estate and Genoicide, with a little incest thrown in for good measure.

Love in the NT isn't really love at all. It's about forced subservience. Love God/Jesus or burn for eternity in the hell that He created for you. That's a pretty fucked up kind of love.
