When you go on a trip. How much/little money do you prefer to bring with?

Enough to live pretty well, but not enough that I'm going to be spending my money on stupid shit I'm never going to use or even really want. That happens a lot when I have excessive amount of money on me. Anyways, the best times on trips are usually the free parts.

I all ways keep an extra 200.00 or so just in case I need it.
When me and my wife were returning from Antigua we got hit with an unexpected departure tax. that extra cash came in handy!

The last trip I took was to some mountain town in PA. (I'm not much of a traveler) I don't like to spend money, so I have a lot of it for when I need it. I just got a plane ticket to go see a good friend, and I figured i'd pick up accomodations while I was there.

I ended up staying at a fucking crack house. Literally. It was the only place in that small town. It was called the old colonial hotel. It had a bar on the bottom floor, I went in and inquired about rooms. She said the owner was out, and that she couldn't rent anything out until she got back. (she was at her sisters house down the street taking a shower, because the 'hotel' didnt have hot water). She told me to come back in a few hours. I went to see my friend, and came back later in the night. She authorized it. And the girl behind the counter told me the prices. $25 a night for a room. $35 a night for a room with a bathroom. I told her i'd take one of the rooms with the bathroom. She just gave me this look and said 'you don't want one of the rooms with the bathroom.'

So I took her advice and decided on a regular room. Shortly after inquiring if I was in town to sell drugs, and attempting to buy some off of me, she passed me off to her husband to find one. He obviously wasn't happy with having to waste his time, so he opened a room that was completely empty. He turned to me and asked "I suppose you want one with a bed?" with a hopeful look in his eye, like maybe I was going to say no and he wouldn't have to do anymore work. Of course I wanted a fucking bed. So he showed me a few more before finding one with a mattress on the floor. No sheets, no nothing. It was winter too...so it was fucking cold. There was also a love seat on the side. I took it because it was becoming obvious that was the best I was going to get. I slept on the love seat, in every piece of clothing I had brought with me.

I paid for the first night, woke up in the morning and went down to pay for the second. That night I stayed out till like 1am in the morning, and by the time I got back to the place, everything was locked. I ended up sleeping in a masoleum in the graveyard down the street. The next night, I made the same mistake, but I wasn't going to sleep in a fucking graveyard again, so I found a way in through the fire escape up the third floor that wasn't locked. I was in town for a week. After I found the way in, I still had my key to the room, so I didn't pay again. I just left the key in the room when I left. So I got a weeks worth of lodging for $50.

Why couldn't you have just stayed with your friend?

When I travel, I never worry about money. A person can always make more money; it's not a difficult thing.

I think I'll save up before I go traveling. Maybe work as I do.

Oh, I forgot about this thread.

Her mom was a little on the unbalanced side. It wouldn't have gone well if I slept there overnight.
