Hey, I haven't been doing any energetic materials synthesis for quite some time now and wanted to try something exotic.
So I got thinking about NG's problem of ''sweating'' and how NC and a tiny amount of Nitrostarch effectively sorts that problem out and makes the blasting gelatin slightly plastic...Then there's NG's freezing problem at 13 C and how EGDN sorts that out...and I've heard that CTMTNA can be added to NG so as to make a moldable plastic explosive with a high VoD, The only drawback of this however is that it is toxic, so no molding without gloves anyway.
As chems are always short I don't have the luxury of empirical testing so I was wondering if anyone had any experience with a mix like this and would maybe be able to help me out with ratio's etc.
If not what sort of ratio's would you think would work best?
I'm mainly concerned with incompatibilities and CTMTNA potentially catalyzing the decomposition of NG and trying to keep NOx vapours to a minimum.
I think I might go for a 15:5:5:1:74 CTMTNA:EGDN:NC:NS:NG
ratio with maybe a pinch (0.1g) of CaCO3 added for stabilization.
I've read about how the undesired NG decomposition is accelerated if stored in a sealed container...do you think the above mix could solve this problem?
Some of you may be asking why I don't want to use ETN only or to replace the CTMTNA etc.
Well basically I can't find a source of Erythritol where I live and I don't feel comfortable ordering online.
