Ok so im getting rid of all my chemicals. Sadly a few of my prized chemicals were thrown away by my step dad which was VERY FUCKING dumb since I have NO clue how he disposed of them and I know he got rid of my Hg, my HNO3 as well as a few of them. Well I HAD about 8lbs of 625mesh Zn and a pound or so of Sulfur. I took it and made about 3-5lbs of Zn/S flash powder. Well I mixed it by eye and figured it wouldn't work super great. FUCK ME was I wrong, that shit BURNT damn clean barly any residue and it burnt in a BIG 5ft green fireball and lasted about 5-10seconds. It was fucking nuts how well it burnt.

it probobly would have worked much better if you used a scale

Zn/S is pretty forgiving, because S acts both as an oxidiser and a fuel -using atmospheric oxygen.

Actually any time ive EVER used a scale and tried the proper ratios by weight it ALWAYs came out shit. It wasn't until one day I got lazy and tried it out by eye and it burnt faster then BP. From what ive heard and seen myself it isn't to forgiving. Lots of people that i know that have tried it have failed to get good results and such.

mine always worked, 7:3 ratio

Zinc to Sulfur is the molar ratio and it always works for me...but because of my zincs grain size it's never like flash powder ...though It does make nice fountains made from heavy cardboard and a small opening made on the top (picture an upside-down rocket).

Well see thats the difference. Ive had it work before when I tried measuring it out, but it was more like something for a fountain and not of BP proportions as far as deflagration rate. I use about a 60/40(sulfur/zinc) ratio by volume(eyed out), it usually is grey with a slightly greenish tint. The main thing with getting it right by eyeing it out from my experience is the color of the mixture. I wish I had gotten a video of it. Ive got some more Zn and sulfur so maybe ill try to get a camera and do it again. But I have to see how much Iodine I plan on doing a big purple smoke mix(Zn/I2+H20=pretty purple Iodine vapors) for my fiance. Theres no way it will be as big since I don't have that much Sulfur left but it should be big if it works good. I was just suprised because of how clean it burnt, there was barly any slag at all.

my fiance.
Congratulations man, As we say in Ireland ''Sláinte agus saol agaibh'' (may ye have good health and a long life together)
Anyways, since sulfur is the oxidizer in the classic Zn+ S
reaction and is only ~33% of the weight of the molar composition maybe a 50: 50 ratio would be better for a faster burn.
Since most flash mixes are usually 70 oxidizer: 30 reducer.
Would I be correct in saying that the greatest number of sulfur grains in proximity with a Zn grain would produce a faster burn...obviously some sort of compromise between the fastest ratio and the molar ratio so that you don't waste sulfur.
