Thread to discuss offseason NFL topics such as:

- Combine/Draft

- Free Agent signings/Trades

- Predictions for upcoming season

I'll kick the discussion off by sayin i'm impressed with the Browns and Jets with some of those FA signings..

As for the #1 overall pick.. Dolphins should draft Jake Long out of Michigan.

As a Browns fan I love what we've done so far. Shored up the dline and got a good complement to Edwards at WR. Need to pick up a cornerback and an OLB still IMO, then we're set. I'd like to see us focus on a OLB in the draft and try to trade to get him.

As a Packers fan, I have a lot to consider now with The Brett Favre leaving the NFL. With Rodger's as the new starting QB, we'll still be the youngest team in the league 2nd year in the row. We have the chance to be a great team, Rodgers just needs to connect with our awesome receiving line and he's got it. Ryan Grant is a very promising back, looking to rank up there with Adrian Peterson. All of this combined will guarantee a division win, meaning playoffs. Maybe not as quite as good spot as we did last year, but I'm predicting about a 10-6 season. And anything is game in the playoffs.

Imagine Favres reaction if the Packers went to the Superbowl

Imagine Favres reaction if the Packers went to the Superbowl

However, the Bears have really dug themselves quite a hole over the last 3 years... over-drafting defensive players and letting the O-line erode. An O-line that uses a poor blocking scheme.
Tait, under performing, leaves after the 2010 season, and is still relatively young.
Kreutz, starting to age, is not the pro-bowler he used to be and has let himself go... only works when he has to.
Metclaf/St. Clair, aging, and were back-ups for a reason... however, they now might still have something left in the tank.
Garza, had a good year then let himself go, and is not getting younger.
Beekmen, a wild card, has not seen much action.
We have picked up a couple young players that look pretty unexciting.
We also hope to draft some in the first two rounds. That isn't helped by a uniquely poor QB situation:
One who has no sense of direction, nor a sense that tells him who to deliver the ball two... but can rocket the ball upwards of 60 yards down the field with a quick release.
One who really is unproven [youngest]... good game manager, mediocre accuracy, decent velocity, and a relatively slow release.
No plans to draft a "ringer".That situation is further exacerbated by the the skeleton Wide-receiver core. A skeleton because we released our struggling starters and picked up a former starter.
Hester, fast, nimble, elusive, and above all fast has all the tools to be one of the best receivers in the NFL... except he has no hands or grasp of the offense. [better on special teams than on offense] #2/3
Booker, slowing down with age, good hands, smart, another Muhammad... although younger. #1
Hass, not blazingly fast, average hands, hard nosed, and smart. #2/3
Davis, quick, OK hands. Yet, better on special teams than on offense like Hester.
Bradley, average across the board... nothing outstanding.
Not really looking for anyone in the draft...
All of these receivers were on the practice squad with ORTON or played with him in 2005...If we looked for help from our running game, we'd find little.
Benson, not fast, not elusive, not much of truck either... more of a flop.
Peterson, pretty average, with a big heart and work ethic. Great #2.
Wolfe, fast, weak, elusive, good hands... would be great if paired with a good line and a power back... Great #2/ 3rd down man.
Pope... utility man, good arm for HB passes... nothing spectacular. #3
Maybe Mendenhall?Defensively:
Solid... need to look at acquiring some fast prospects and maybe some speedy depth at Saftey/CB. We have more than enough LB's. Even if we didn't sign Briggs we would not be panicking.

Special Teams:

We need to look at getting a punter eventually... Maynard is on the downside of his great career, Gould is golden, and we have Devin Hester.

Overall:
We need an effective O-line to materialize to allow a fledgling Offense to take flight. Defensively, stay healthy.

Either we make the play-offs or we have a record of less than 6-10.

You must be a Bears fan, so let's talk NFC North.

First off, yeah I am worried about Rodger's injury proneness, but not enough to make me worry about the team. I think Rodger's might get shaken up a bit during the first few games because he hasn't gotten hit that much since college, but I think he'll be able to pull through and be a decent starting QB. He's no Favre, obviously, but he'll have a good enough team to be decent. Better then sexy rex at least.

How you feeling about the Vikings? I have a feeling they're only going to get better, and they're the Packer's main competition for the NFC North title next year. The Lions will struggle again this year and be in the same situation as the Bears. Peterson is a very promising back and once the Vikings figure out their QB situation then we'll have more to worry about. Imagine if the Vikings still had Moss, then I might actually worry the Vikings would win th NFC North.

I think for the NFC North, this is as follows
Packers: 10-6
Vikings: 8-8 with a wildcard
Bears: 6-10
Lions: 6-10 or 5-11

Never meant to sound like I worried about the team... but, I am worried that you will rely on your #2 more than we'd like. Rodgers, has the smarts and a decent deep ball... His receiving core will bail him out if he needs it.

He's no Favre, obviously, but he'll have a good enough team to be decent. Better then sexy rex at least. Which is why I put a lot of faith in the smarter, more mobile, Kyle Orton. [who subsequently is not starting material in 80% of NFL teams]

How you feeling about the Vikings? I have a feeling they're only going to get better, and they're the Packer's main competition for the NFC North title next year. Peterson is a very promising back and once the Vikings figure out their QB situation then we'll have more to worry about. If they can get anything resembling an effective passing game and Peterson stays healthy... they could end up with 10+ wins in the regular season. Why count out the Bears? If our offense is halfway productive we have a potent defense... Yet, admittedly that is merely a pipe dream.

The Lions will struggle again this year and be in the same situation as the Bears.Jon Kitna & Co. is no unknown. Their is little hope of an offense materializing there... The bears have a prayer, if only that.

Imagine if the Vikings still had Moss, then I might actually worry the Vikings would win th NFC North.I would be worried because they would have two fast wide-receivers, but placated because they have a worse quarterback situation than us.

Packers: 10-6
Vikings: 8-8 with a wildcard
Bears: 6-10
Lions: 6-10 or 5-11Packers: 11-5
Vikings: 9-7
Bears: 8-8 [or 5-11 if Devin Hester gets injured early]
Lions: <5-10

That may seem a little high but next year the AFC is going downhill.

How is the AFC going downhill?

Patriots, Colts, Chargers all look to be as good as they were this year.

Browns and Steelers should be ten win teams in the North. Cincinnati and the Ravens have the talent to be good, though the chemistry and coaching are question marks.

The Texans are moving up, and Jacksonville and Tennessee should continue to be good.

You could make the argument that the two toughest divisions in the NFL are in the AFC, or at the very least two of the three toughest divisions if you throw in the NFC East.

Well, It probably would have been wiser to declare that the AFC will be leveling out. The Patriots/Colts domination will not be as expressed meaning that more teams will end nearer to .500%... since a Patriot team wont garner 16 regular season wins.

I have a feeling we won't see 16 wins in a season for at LEAST another 5 years, probably 7. And it won't be the Patriots.

Highly unlikely. I mean they have a shot at the NFC title MAYBE, but Superbowl, no. Dallas will be fierce next year, and the possibility of a good Packer team is threatening too.

I'll take the Giants over the Favre-less Pack in the playoffs any day. Dallas will threaten but i definitely agree the Giants can get to the Superbowl again. Giants have been good in FA as well, replacing our Wilson (safety) with Knight and adding Carr and Clark were both smart moves. Fear the tandem of Ross and Webster at cb this season. Sprinkle some Sam Madison and Knight in there, thats a very respectable secondary, even with the loss of Gibril.

I think the Packers will go into a slump without Favre, Rodgers hasnt even played a full game yet.

I guess we'll see.

First monday night game of the season, Green Bay vs Minnesota. Whoever wins is most likely going to be the NFC North Champion. Yeah that's far fetched but I said it.

The bears have to play the Colts week 1, rematch of the superbowl. Theyre going to get killed too.

And the lions.... lol who cares

GB vs Minny will be a pretty good game, alot will be answered that first game..about Berrian to Jackson to Rodgers..I think Minny wins this won while AD explodes lol

Bears vs Colts, I think this game is similar to last years Bears vs Diego..Bears D is healthy and dominates..Bears O right now on paper sucks ass but the draft and june 1st cuts hasnt happened yet so I will reserve judgement..even if the obviously favored Colts win, it's an AFC loss which means shit for the first game.

Im hoping to god they can atleast move the ball 15 yards to get field goals because you know the Colts probably won't kick to Hester..Im hoping they do though because that means the Bears 'O' will be able to move the ball to force them to kick it to him..Besides that, guys are paid millions to make plays, why be pussies?
