It's as simple as this, a couple years back when the anime was being released, I watched til episode 21 or so and thought it was pretty decent, nothing special. A couple years later, I pick up manga more than anime and so I decided to catch back up with Air Gear since I never finished.
Holy shit, it became deep and twisted... people getting killed, Air Gear being more than just a sport? Wow, what in the hell.
Then finding out the best Air Gear players are actually created for the Tropheuam(SP?) Tower project, aka gravity children.
Then Akito/Agito formed a new personality called Lind who's like a super gravity child. Ikki becomes the Sky King only to lose it very quickly to the betrayal of his idol Sora who taught him everything he knew.
And what the fuck, Sora could walk all along!?
Ikki becomes the Storm King and sets out on the Hurricane road with Kururu (genius mechanic) to help make his new Regalia. Kazu becomes the Fire King after the death of Spitfire at the hands of Sora and his twin brother Nike.
The whole story got deep, the art is amazing, I'm impressed and hooked now. Too bad they only animated so much, I would have loved to see those fights animated.
What can I expect from Oh! Great? He's probably written the most complex manga I've ever read, Tenjou Tenge. Deepest too.
