"One of the simplest plastic explosives was Nobel’s Explosive No. 808, known also as "Nobel 808", developed by the British company Nobel Chemicals Ltd. well before World War II. It had the appearance of green plasticine with a distinctive smell of almonds. During World War II it was extensively used by the British Special Operations Executive (SOE) for sabotage missions. It is also the explosive used in HESH anti-tank shells."

I am an info junkie, so once this was posted i did a lot of looking myself. Beyond the wiki article, info is anecdotal at best. Probably owing to the fact that RDX based plastic explosives made this mixture obsolete shortly after WW2. A few sources claim its a form of gelignite, this conclusion is somewhat bolstered by an account of a WW2 vet on the BBC website, posted by a son of said vet, that relates that he incurred massive headaches from making the mistake of handling it without gloves as part of his demolition training in the British armed forces.

Nitroglycerin will do that to you yeah.
And yes, as soon as RDX could be produced industrially, it replaced a shitload of other explosives. Stable, insensitive, easy to manipulate, and an extreme vod which makes it ideal for demolitions.
