i like law shit. i like law enforcement shit. i'd like to work for the FBI/CIA. i'd be happy working as a prosecutor and eventually a judge. being a defense attorney wouldn't be so bad either.

this is the first week of the new quarter, and i'm all like "oh yeah i don't care if economics pissed me off before, i'm going to try it again and damnit, that's my major now!" unless i want to be here forever or have to take a bunch of extra shit, i need to pick a gay ass major now. i'm sick of people talking about how useless some majors are. this has filled my head with this shit about doing a business degree. i don't fucking like business. we tell kids they can be anything they want if they set their mind to it, but then when college comes we tell them to all fall in line and do something marketable, like engineering, a science, or accounting. why hold yourself back like that? last time i checked, these were not the only professions out there.

i'm not taking this shit anymore. i'm doing sociology/criminology. i may go to law school. i may go on to grad school and focus on the criminal profiling aspect. if i can't find a job, it's the fault of my will and ability, not my major.

i refuse to take higher level classes i hate, let alone sit at a desk doing something i hate for 30+ years.

Good for you. You'll be MUCH happier in the long run with a major you enjoy. Do it.

I think the will to succeed is more important than the degree. I know plenty of people graduating from great places with interesting degrees but won't get anywhere because they have no will.

Excellent choice. Follow your passion.

I really can't say more, but remember that you aren't locked into anything. It's your choice.

i think i didn't have enough time to say this before, but on the whole stigma against "useless" degrees, i.e. arts ones in the social sciences, humanities, and even fine arts...you can find employment in those areas, obviously. it just takes maybe a little more education than someone with a business or engineering degree. though even business and engineering people, if they want to be competitive and move up the chain of command, will go back to school for their master's. so yes, it is a bit delusional to think you'll find a great job with a bachelor's in psychology...but with a doctorate, you could actually get into something you supposedly enjoy.

yeah, and i will be too if i stop at the bachelor's level. your friend is a fucking idiot for not continuing her education. if she really wanted to work in the field, she'd get a law degree or go to graduate school.

see fucking above.

The problem is that a lot of kids (read: highschool graduates) still don't even know what they want to do/be.

The only good thing about your choice of course is the class will be 90% female.
