View Full Version : Partying in Europe

Ok, so this summer I am going on my European backpacking voyage in Europe.

I'm going to fly into Spain around the 7th of July. I'm going to head up to Pamplona for the Running of the Bulls festival which I think will entail some insane partying (I may go to Ibiza first for a few days, then go to Pamplona). Then I want to go to Berlin for Love Parade (which I think is on the 16th, can anyone confirm this?). After Berlin it's Munich, and maybe Stuttgart (to visit a friend). Then we're going to head to Amsterdam for a few days of experiencing the insane Dutch culture (need I elaborate?). Finally we're going to cap off our trip in Ireland with some time in Dublin and some time in Galway (and maybe some places in between).

Is this a reasonable plan for a month of traveling? Can I still have loads of fun, fuck many women, drink lots of alcohol, and do lots of drugs even though I'm backpacking and on a budget? Is partying really expensive?

Any advice would be great, especially info on cheap flights from Canada to Spain, good hostels in those cities, and the best clubs, and if there is a place I should disregard. Any help would be great. Thanks.

Also I will be 17 until July 13th, will this affect my partying? Will I be refused or get IDed at the clubs?

No, I'm going with my best friend.

All sounds good, though I'd give Copenhagen or Prague (very cheap, apparently quite lax about weed). If you're doing Ireland, try and time it for a Belfast night "Shine". I'm a big fan.

I'd like to try Prague, but I'm a Canadian and I may need visas to get in. I was looking at Copenhagen but it's too expensive. I'll get there one day.

If you're not 18 when you're in the Netherlands you might have a small problem enjoying our "insane culture".

I'll be 18 in Netherlands, I'm making sure of that.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legal_drinking_age check out the drinking ages in countries you want to go to... But in my experience they're more relaxed about it than USA.

hehe cool. It says 16 for Belgium, but you can buy it even if you're younger. Just go to the grossery store to buy it and not in some specialized alcohol shop (which you don't find much in Belgium anyway)

errrrr well first off, if Ireland is anything like the rest of the UK you will need to be 18 in 95%(5% are more relaxed) of the shops to get served alcohol (but you are far more likely to be sold cigarettes).

and as for doing it on the cheap...
well in Ireland you can expect to pay $5 for a pint.

In Amsterdam cannabis is generally about 6-7euro a gram which is about the same price back home.
however the hostels should be suitable for cutting back on travel expenses and you should be able to find the best nightlife by asking people at the hostel.

good luck

You are going to be a lot poorer by the end of your holiday, as traveling around Europe is often more expensive than the cost you might think because public transport (where it exists) and general cost of living is high. Going to Ibiza is certainly a fun time if you have a real passion for dance music/clubs etc but there's nothing there which mainland Spain hasn't got.

You may want to re think the Berlin - Stuttgart - Amsterdam leg of your trip as you will be doubling back on yourself.

As far as drinking/partying goes you should have no problems with getting age checked in Spain, Germany and Netherlands. If you have a fake ID then dope in NL too. You may have some problems in Northern Ireland but I suppose you could always fake ID your way in.

Stay clear of England/Scandinavia as you all your cash will go down the drain there.

If you want to party attempt to learn a bit of the local lingo.

I live a bit further east than the places you want go to but rest assured that I know Europe fucking well and think your trip is okay. Also, unless you're staying with friends throughout you will need a bona fide 18+ ID to book accommodation. Good luck

You can even go in some bars and get served, used to go to the one next to school when I was 14 and no questions asked.

Also, Jup is way overrated.

What if he were to just rent a car (high mpg) and just live and cruise in that. Think that would save him a few bucks?? I'm a college student far from home and when they kick us out on holidays I'll just go on a week long partying spree instead of going home without really spending much money on anything other than food and partying. I usually take a shower every other day at a girl's house or some gym, which is a good place to find parties and girls again. I've got more tips on living off the land for a short while. It does drain you over time though.

I'm going to be in Pampalona for the running of the bulls as well this year. I'm flying to Bilboa on the 1st July, spending a few days there and then going to Pampalona for the 6th. Where are you going to be staying there? Have you got a youth hostle sorted out or are you just going to camp?

As for drinking, Spain is faily lax about it's drinking laws. You're not meant to be served booze until you are 18 but drinking it is legal at 16 (odd eh?). But at somewhere like Pampalona you shouldn't worry at all. Drink will be fucking everywhere.

You wanna see if we can meet up while we're there? E-mail me at zumtream@hotmail.com. I'm full of advice for travelling round Europe since for the past two years i've done extensive road trips around.

if you want to go cheap, go south or east. Stray away from typical tourist things, go through the countryside. I've been on roadtrips twice through eastern europe down to italy, it's really beautiful. I'd go as far as to say stay away from big cities, that's where all the tourists horde to. In the Polish countryside you'll find hotels which cost 20$, which in Canada would cost 150$. However, the hotels on the outskirts of big cities won't be any cheaper, as they know tourists come there with lots of cash.

Isn't age of consent in Spain 13?

That still doesn't mean you'll find a girl that'll consent.

How much spending money are you going to bring? I was thinking of doing this next summer.

I'm only going to be 17 for a few days after I get there (I fly in on July 8th and turn 18 on July 13th). I've decided to cut out Pamplona as accomadations are expensive, and it's going to be touristy. Instead of Pamplona, we'll be going to San Sebastien, I know you have to be 18 for certain hotels and hostels but my friend is 18 so he can take care of that, plus I think a lot of people will look the other way if I slap down a credit card and tell them my birthday is only in a couple of days. For a budget, I'm going over there with $1000 in the bank and a credit card with a $1000 limit. As I run low on cash, I make a telephone call to my financiers back in Canada (commonly known as parents) who will then restock with cash. I think $3000 spending money will cover room, food, and fun. We have a train pass so a lot of traveling expenses are wiped out.

This is a bit of a perverted question but what are most hostel's policies on sex in the dorms? I'm a womanizing teenager and I like to fuck. Can I get away with this in the hostels?

Hey babe wanna go back to my hostel for some kinky sex?

A hostel is a bed, usually in a room shared with many. If you want sex, get a motel. If in eastern europe, hope they don't film it and hope you don't get crabs from your 5$ polish hooker.

Also, OP. At least go to Ibiza and Berlin, ESPECIALLY for the Love Parade (or was it the Fuck Parade; not surw)

San Sebastien is gonna be just as touristy as Pampalona this time of year but less crowded and less fun. Mostly it will be filled with people coming from or going to Pampalona.
If you want somewhere amazing around the4 basque coast i recomend Biaritz in France (about 30 minutes away from SS). It's fairly touristy but has got amazing beaches, great surf sports and some of the best camp sites i've ever been to in Europe. And everyone there is up for partying.
However if you're in San Sebastien I may take a day of from the bull run and come a visit.
