I am in high school at the moment. For quite a while I have been wondering why the hell would anyone support thier school? I just don't understand it. First of all, the school system is the ones that screw everything up for you all the time. Giving you pointless work to do, teachers telling you shit cause they think they run the world, security guards screwing with people. The years of bullshit are all their fault. So why in the hell would you wear shirts that support your school and all that shit? Second of all, all that pep rally type stuff is for fags (in my opinion).
The only things I can think of is that either these school pride ass holes don't have anything better to do or they are just such dumb teachers ass kissing morons, that they actually do like that school pride shit and don't hate the school system as much as I do.

it's a territorial thing. as much as my high school sucked, and as rational as i think i am, i still held out resentment for neighboring schools and districts. "lousy preps, think they're better than us...etc etc" i wasn't into high school sports too much, but it was satisfying when we'd beat our cross town rivals in football. and besides, supporting sports teams has more to do with knowing friends on the teams than hating your teachers or the school board. usually the ones selling school pride shirts and such are sports teams trying to raise money for equipment costs and whatnot. buying one supports their cause.

Correct, and in order to do so... YOU HAVE TO HAVE FRIENDS IN THE FIRST PLACE!
Guess who i am thinking of right now!

School doesn't exist to screw things up for you. The people that have "school spirit" don't see school as a negative thing. They see it as a building block for their future; it's a building full of friends and offers interesting opportunities.
There is a lot of busy work in school, but it's there for a purpose. Different people learn in different ways, some people need that repetition to understand the concepts involved.
Some teachers have attitude, but they are there to help you. Teachers aren't administrators, they're there to help you.
Security guards are a terrible necessity, but that isn't the fault of the school. If security guards aren't needed, then they aren't employed.
The only reason not to wear school clothes are if they're ugly and cheap. If it's a nice shirt, then there's no reason not to wear it. I have a hoodie from my high school; I've never worn it, but it's sitting in a closet. Clothes are just a question of personal taste. Some people take unthinkable levels of pride in their school because they feel that they've accomplished something. University students are big on this pride; I think it's because it dominates so much of their life.
A pep rally can be a lot of fun, but it depends on the school and the people involved. It all depends on your attitude and the attitudes of the people involved. Fire and loud music often helps. Your involvement, and the involvement of your friends, will dictate your level of interest.
It's simply a choice, you can get involved in your school or you can keep your head down and slip through it. You don't have to get into a pep rally or wear school clothing to get involved, it can be as simple as joining a club or going to a party.

-Yes, I have (almost) no friends....The reason being that almost everyone at my school is either a moron or a total jerk. Im not saying that you can't take pride in your school if your into that kind of thing, but don't drag me into it. People are always asking you stupid shit like, "why aren't you supporting our school" (as a dumb example). That shit gets annoying after about 5-8 years...People take that stuff too seriously is what I mean.
-Maybe the whole school isn't trying to screw things up for me, but for the most part...People try to screw with you for their own pleasure. I honestly don't try to start anything and I've been screwed with by security guards, my one teacher made shit up about me...All knids of shit. Ever seen Taxi Driver with Robert De Niro? Well, it's sort of like that. My school is filled with total morons and scumbags, most of which only care about themselves.

You have security guards at your school? No wonder you hate the place.
I have no real school pride, but we do honestly have one of the better public schools around. That's accepted by many others across the state, so we trial things for other schools since we have decent people who won't fuck things up.

The "security guards" are mostly for making sure you aren't walking around in the halls. I don't think they are going to be doing much more than that...I think thy needed jobs so my town made up a job for them...

my school replaced traditional hall monitors with auxilary police officers when i was in 11th grade. shortly after, there was a fight, and one of the "cops" tackled a kid to stop it. he was fired. apparently they really don't have any more authority than a teacher or regular hall monitor, and can't use force against kids. they soon became a joke just like the old hall monitors.

breaking up fights and monitoring the lunchroom. in the hall, they're supposed to catch all the niggers who skip class, but as i said, it's a joke.
"get to class, tyone."
"ya ok missa cop dude. i goin now."
*tyrone walks around school very slowly, telling anyone else he's on his way to class*

I hated my high school, however I love my university, i'm a varsity athlete one of the top 5 people in program (marks wise), and I have a shitload of gear, i'm also elected to the students union :)
High school sucks.
University is where it's all fun.

1. Security Guards- Most of them are just rent-a-piggy, or some district employee they hired for that purpose. We had a mexican lady that was our guard in HS, she was the coolest and meanest person all rolled into one. She'd listen to what you had to say, or ruin your day if you were starting shit. We had a city cop that was on campus all day, he was basically assigned the school as his beat. Whereas our district guard couldn't exercise force, the cop was within his legal rights to beat us down.
2. Pride in the fucking shithole known as High School- I had next to no pride in the place, did not give 2 shits. But, I went to the games because my friends were on the teams, and I bought one of those "Property of Kelso High School Athletics" t-shirts because the sales supported the teams my friends were on.

Dude, how many people are at your school? Have you personally interviewed all of them to make sure they're all jerks and morons? I'm no socialite, but there's still plenty of people I get along with just fine.
It's something to have pride in, they actually understand the point in school and it's clear you DON'T. You'll understand when you finish school that all the teacher and crap they put you through is for your own good. STICK IN AND WORK HARD.
I went to school functions in high school because that is where the bitches are and everyone gets fucked up afterwards / before.
uni is kinda the same I guess
Edit: And I don't know what everyone is talking about but if you go to a high school with over 2000 kids and don't have hall monitors there would be fucking chaos (the gay kind).

You have no friends because you're a fucking square.
If I was a teacher in a high school, I'd be a total prick to the majority of students too, considering most of them are out of control and think they know everything.

How many kids go to your school? I seriously doubt they're all asshats.
And school is useless, info-wise. You'll most likely never have to calculate crazy trapezoid angles or recite lines from MacBeth in real life, but doing all this shit teaches your brain how to learn and how to think. When you go to uni you have the abilities to catch on to new concepts and think faster and come to conclusions faster. Your brain follows patterns it's seen before and you can solve problems and such better. Better grades=more adaptable learner=better college= better job. Suck it up now and you'll be living the high life when you're 30. Rebel now and you'll be flippin burgers. Attacking the system only hurts you and makes you more of a pawn, but if you just take advantage of it you can live a very comfortable life and use your money to rebel, which could actually have an effect, unlike being poor. Yeah, it sucks, but coming out on top is totally worth it.
1800 kids, no chaos.
You didn't meet the criteria.

3500 kids, no chaos. Hah.
Anyways, school pride didn't make sense to me until college. You need to take ownership in your educational institution to have pride in its sporting teams (or in its reputation in general).
So basically, college rocks, high school sucks balls, but is worth it so you can go to college.
