View Full Version : BS in Chemistry?
I'm a junior in HS now, and know that I want to pursue a career in science. Lately I've been thinking about pharmacy, and I think I'd enjoy the university experience, the work, and of course the pay. I should have no problem getting into any pharmacy school that I would apply to on the east coast. However, I also want to apply to a few Ivy League reach schools for shits and giggles because there is the chance that I might get in. The only majors that they have that I would be interested in are Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, and Biomedical Engineering. Biomedical is my least favorite, then Chemical Engineering, then Chemistry. My question is, what can i do with a BS in Chemistry? Working in some research lab year round for only 30g's doesn't sound too appealing, so what else does a chem degree lead to? Thanks

Med school, law school, PhD. You could probably make at least 50-60 with just a BS, though.

chemistry degrees are pretty versatile. do a bit of online searching and you'll uncover all kinds of stuff. my dad has a chem degree and he's an engineer for general electric, though he started out working there in a lab setting.
may i ask why you are interested in these majors? what exposure have you had to them? i only ask because of how ridiculously hard and overwhelming the coursework can be in college, compared to high school.

Chemistry is an awesome career to be in right now. As a chemistry major, I should know...I just landed an internship [as a sophomore] for 17 dollars an hour.
That equals out to 35g/year...without a degree.
You can be a lab tech, mostly - do analytical chemistry in companies like Pfizer or something. You could also be a lab tech in a research center. There's also a lot of options for grad school - if you get in, you will not pay, guaranteed. Any grad school nowadays will give you free tuition, free books and 30k a year on top of that just to go to their school.
Good career choice.
