If you get a 2.5 this semester, you need to average a 4.5 gpa for the rest of high school.

If you get a 3.0 this semester, you need to average a 4.375 gpa for the rest of high school.

Good luck :p

wait, are you in high school or college?

http://www.revfad.com/gpa_calculator.html

there's a GPA calculator. only use the + or - grades if your school officially uses those, obviously.

Take an AP or two next year if you think you can hangle it. First of all, colleges like seeing student who challenge themselves by taking APs, and secondly, a C in an AP basically translates to an A in a regular class.

Take AP Psychology. If you don't mind doing a lot of reading, do AP US History or AP English. Also, I know a girl who used to talk about AP Art History sophomore year and that sounds like a pretty bullshit class so you should look into that too. You can also plan now for APs to take senior year like you could look into AP Music Theory or AP Computer Science or whatever.

newsflash: not all high schools offer every AP course invented. i had never even heard of most of those. my school had US history, english, and pre-calc, and they all offered the exact same GPA weight as honors courses.

Newsflash: there are no weights for honors courses in my school. It could be the same for him and if not, there is no reason to take AP courses in the first place.

well that's pretty retarded. ah well.

there'd still be a reason to take AP courses, just not to get his GPA up. college admissions would be impressed he took harder classes. though if he can't handle them at all, high school counselors would shy him against those and direct him towards vocational education courses perhaps.

Fuck AP classes, dual enroll in community college classes. They are way easier than AP classes, they are only 2x a week, and they are over in one semester. AND they are worth more credits.

I know man you have to do it at a community college. It doesn't mean you have to go to that college for your 4 year or 2 year degree. Dual enrollment is free in most states too, just pick a community college near you and go there just to boost your GPA and get some prerequisite classes out of the way. That's what I did and it's badass. I have so many college credits that I got for free and the classes were way easier than high school classes because there is no homework.

what makes you think you will get a good grade in AP classes?

if you really want to raise your gpa, its not just about calculating what grade you need to get to get a certain gpa.

you have to be willing to do all the homework, do all the reading assignments, not lie to yourself about whether or not you actually know the information, avoid marijuana,
not let queer practice come in the way, not slit your wrist when you get suspended from school for something you didnt do, not become a suicidal emo, not wearing eye liner or other makeup, not play too much gta4, wake up early to review for tests, carry your books to school eventhough your pussy arms or back hurt from carrying them.

Now are you prepared to do all that? I gont pukin tink so. go to your fujkin room

Sakes! Why aren't you in Ap classes anyway?

Supposing you aren't a dumbass and are correctly motivated, then it's definitely possible, and good luck to ya!

And if ya get it, tell us.

Last quarter I just got a 3.0 for the quarter... It's a start.
This quarter I have a 3.5 so far, and it's midterms.

That alone is not enough to get perfect grades in hard classes. Thats the minimum to get a B most of the time. Doing all the reading, doing all the homework, and a degree of skill go without saying. You don't review for tests the same day, you review for several hours each day for at least two days beforehand. You contact the teacher about every possible confusion. You don't overlook everything and you make sure you can put into practice every minor little bullshit detail, doing the stuff you're going to have to do over and over until you get it. If there's something you CAN'T figure out, however insignificant you might think it is, you're going to have to spend an inordinate amount of time flailing around looking for the answers you need and confirming their accuracy. If you have a group project and you're unconvinced about the quality of your group members work, you're going to have to do it all yourself.

The effort/grade ratio moves in an exponential curve. It is very easy to get decently good grades, but incredibly difficult to get consistently very high grades because of all the effort involved in clarifying what is required for the grade and making damn sure you meet that requirement exactly and never fuck up.

The people who do this stuff use all their free time, much of the time they would otherwise be sleeping, and are constantly stressed to the breaking point. They make themselves physically sick. Yeah, it's how they get to be Valedictorians, its how they get a shot at being doctors and lawyers, but they sacrifice their whole lives for it.

I didn't take any AP classes while I was in high school, but I kind of wish I would have. Then again, my senior year was pretty laid back. I could taken less classes last year if I had some AP credits or earned Sophomore standing like my roommate did. Whatever, I bumped my 2.5 to a 3.1 so I'm happy.

If you want to take AP classes, it's probably going to be a lot of work, but it should prepare you pretty well for college. My friend told me that they're harder than the college class. He took AP U.S 1 and 2, AP Lit, and AP Calc. Fuck AP Lit, just take College Composition it's much easier.
