Over the past year or so I've lost all faith in god. Not because anything detrimental happened to me but because the entire concept doesn't make sense to me, plus religion makes it even absurd.
Its almost atheistic christianity, kinda "be like jesus (or ghandi, or lennon)" thing, without god. I'm trying simply to be peaceful and treat people how a person deserves to be treated, always forgive. I dont feel that violence is ever justified (but still must be forgiven.)
I don't think there is a heaven, but thats not why I am doing this. I feel that even in these small amounts it will somehow make this world less appauling. Above all i think it is the only right thing one can do.
I have to say it has'nt been easy, and i do go against my own "beleifs" every now and again, but i make it a point to recognize my error and mend my own ways.
I dunno, maybe im crazy but even without god jesus' message makes a whole lot of sense. More so then not eating meat on a friday anyways.

So what you're saying is that you've decided to be an altruistic person?
Why do you need to form that into a set of beliefs?

Belief systems are just cages of the free mind. A good life philosophy is the way to be.
I have a few philosophies I live by.
At least I'm not the asshole. It simply means that I don't let assholes make my life crappy, or retaliate against them unless necessary, because at least I know I'm not the kind of person who makes this world worse for no reason.
Some of the best advice comes from the least expected places.
Money comes easy to those who don't deserve it.
Forgiveness is the ultimate exercise in humility.
Grease the wheels of society, cause you might need it some day.
It goes on and on.

This is the mantra of the poor.
The mantra of the poor is "Money cannot buy you happiness".
The mantra of the ugly is "True beauty is on the inside".
The mantra of the ignorant is "God loves me".

I said," money comes easy to those who don't deserve it".
Money still comes to those who deserve it too, just not easy.
What I mean by this is that people who win the lottery, exploit slave labor conditions in the third world, or generally unfairly exploit people to make a quick buck(Oprah, cough cough), don't deserve it.
I'm not poor either. My old man is a part owner in a company that he worked his ass off to build up. He makes mid six figures. He's actually a millionaire. He deserves all of it. I'm putting in my hard work now, and one day his assets will be my assets.

Atheistic christianity? Why, I've never... ;)
I like your philosophy, except that I believe we should treat people how we'd like to be treated ... not how they deserve to be treated. Let's face it - some people don't deserve our kindness. Doling it out in spite of that is what takes a loving resolve and a peaceful stance against your adversaries.
I believe violence is justified at times. I also believe that forgiveness most benefits the forgiver, not the recipient of the forgiveness.

If you actually read the new testament, Jesus goes into length about how Christianity is to never become a religion, how praying is stupid, and that churches are bullshit.
Read this from the king James bible. I'll translate since some of the words might not be well known.
"1Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.
2Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward."
3But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth:
4That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly."
Don't give to charity in front of others, talk about it, or even let your wife know about it, or your just doing it to make yourself look good. Looking good is your reward, unless you do it in secret, then God will reward you openly.
"5And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
6But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.
7But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.
8Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.
9After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
10Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
11Give us this day our daily bread.
12And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
13And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
14For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:
15But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses."
Jesus says that praying is stupid because God is all-knowing jackasses, but if you must, find a secret private place like a closet, and then he gives them the lords prayer, and tells them to never say any other prayer than it. Your also not supposed to repeat prayers, cause only heather pagans do that shit.
"16Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
17But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face;
18That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly. "
If you must fast, don't wear makeup so that everyone else knows your fasting, instead keep your face clean so that they can't tell at all. Only God will know, and he'll reward you openly.
See, real Christians are people who don't follow the religion, but simply live as good people and purposely hide their good deeds and sacrifices from everyone else, and God rewards them.
You are essentially a true Christian. Project good will, but take no credit, and your reward will come to you.

Isn't the promise of a better reward from keeping shit secret a contradiction to the whole "not doing it for the reward" though?
easeoflife22

No, cause it doesn't say that you won't be rewarded or that its wrong to do things for a reward, only that if you trumpet your good deeds you'll be rewarded with praise from people around you instead of from God. Do a good deed for someone and accept no reward and no praise, and you'll understand what it means to be rewarded spiritually.
Can you honestly sit back and say that you leave as little negative impact on this planet as possible, that you do your absolute best to make this place better, but don't believe you should be praised for this at all?
If you do achieve this, you'll probably project yourself as if you are better than everyone else around you, but know that all of them could achieve the same. Actually, as sign that you're a true Christian is that those who aren't, will despise you for being truly righteous. Look what they did to Jesus.
