A friend of mine is going to visit his mother I Denmark, and I can go with him. I am 18, we will fly to Denmark, stay with his family for a while, then take a train to Germany, the Netherlands, France, and a few other places. We will be over there for about a month,[less I think]
How much am I looking to spend on the basics?[food, lodging, etc...] The plane ticket is $600 both ways.
I have no clule how much it will cost, or what the exchange rate is, or anything.
This plan is just forming, and I am trying to learn what I need to know.
Thanks.
Dollar is very weak right now, so that sucks for you.
What is your budget? Are you looking to travel as cheaply as possible? How many days/weeks will you be travelling around? Where are you going? "A few other places", not very definitive.

Yeah I know.
lol
The whole thing isn't exactly planned out yet. Most of the time I won't be spending money like I am rich, but I know I will spend a good bit in Amsterdam [I hope mushrooms are cheap!]
The rest of the time I will be rather cheap, only buying what I need. We will probably get a 1 bed hotel room and 2 of us will sleep on the floor. We will probably be with family for a week or a little more.
Then we will take a train to different places, the furthest place will probably be Paris. I don't even know where we will be departing....
I know the dollar is really low in value right now. :(
Exactly how bad is it?
My friend said $1,300 will be fine to live off while I am there.[I am just talking lodging and food]
I was thinking it will be more than that. Because of the exchange rate.
I am trying to figure the basics of traveling to Europe. I have been to Costa Rica and Mexico a few times[the bad parts], but that was with family, I never traveled with no one organizing everything.
Thanks.
Hey dude, have you seen the river lately? I crossed it this weekend and god damn was it high. Definitely the highest I've ever seen. If you haven't you need to.
Anyways, the Euro is at $1.60 per dollar and climbing (http://finance.yahoo.com/currency/convert?amt=1&from=EUR&to=USD&submit=Convert). When are you going? If it's not for a few more weeks or months I'd go ahead and change it over and save some money (or make some, depending on how you look at it)

I can walk to the river. Its mad high, where I am its 21 ft above sea level.
I like 5 miles from the Bonnet-carrie spillway, and there is some really good fishing now. Its supposed to fuck everything in the lake up though.
What part of the city are you from? Its good to see a local on here.
Anyway we won't be going untill June probably. Where can I exchange it? I will probably get it exchanged pretty soon if it keeps changing that much.
I'm from Eden Isle actually. you?
Yea I hope it doesn't fuck up the oysters and crab and shrimp too bad. I wish I had time to go and do some fishing.
idk where you can change it at, I've never done it

I live in Destrehan. Down airline from the airport. They said the boat launch by Williams is nothing but fresh water.
Thanks for your help, man.

Denmark is fucking expensive, just to warn you.
If you are out in a bar chances are you're going to be paying about $8 a pint of beer. Double that for a double mixer.
You're in luck that you have a place to stay in Denmark that'll save you a bunch of money. It's a very expensive country (the scandanavian countries are the most expensive of europe, with Iceland being the worst)
Exchanging your money now is good advice! Because it's expected that it'll go towards $2 = €1, may take a little while but still.
About the Netherlands, Amsterdam is by far the most expensive city here (I'm dutch), because it's where all the tourists go. But probably one of the cheaper big tourist cities in Europe so you'll be in luck with that, the Netherlands is also one of the cheapest western european countries so. :) You could go to another city which would be cheaper, but I don't know if you want to see some sights in Amsterdam or museums or something.
How are you travelling? If it's by train you can get tickets for travelling through multiple countries and some even include loging etc. That'll probably save you a load of money.

A a word of advice.
I've seen you said you were planning on getting a hotel room, I would definetly choose the hostel option instead.
I mean you're 18 that's the perfect age for hostels, you will meet tons of people and have a great time, plus you'll save quite a bit of money.
Hotels can be very expensive, even the low category ones, last December I was in Lyon(southeast France) for two days and I stayed in a two stars hotel and it still costed me 49 euros per night with breakfast NOT included.
As somebody said already Northern Europe tends to be more expensive than the rest of the continent, if you're staying with family in Denmark you won't have a problem, but I would suggest heading south afterwards.
Spain, Italy, you'll have plenty of fun for cheaper and there's lot of stuff to see.
Or you could always go East, cheap booze and hookers, if that's what you're into.

And who actually takes advantage of the complementary breakfasts anyways? I'm guessing they're different from the ones here in the US.

Wll the thing is I was paying 49 euros for a crappy bedroom in a crappy two star hotel, usually they should always have breakfast included.
Also a sandwich and a cappucino near the hotel costed me 8 euros.

I have another question now, bought a Kelty internal frame pack, but when I looked it up on the internet it turns out its a womans pack. Thats the only one they had there, will it make a difference if I use it? Since its made for a woman will It be uncomfortable on me after a while? I will have it on for a long time.

No. It shouldn't be uncomfortable at all I'd think, just put it on and put some weights in it and see if it feels right. If it doesn't feel right, especially after wearing it for a while, take it back to the store and test some while you're there, they might even have sandbags/weights to put in it for ya.
