They said it was going off in the air so it was probably someone making homemade aerial salute shells prolly 3" and they were shooting them of at night. Flash powder will deffinitely light up a huge area and make a huge boom. a 3" flash shell going off in the air is deafening. It deffinitely looks like a flash salute.
