View Full Version : Today. . . I Shave My Head

It has been approximately 2 years and 5 months since my head has last been shaved, in that time it has been slightly cut on two or three occasions and has grown to roughly 25 inches.
Why am I going to shave this part of me that has grown and experienced with me through a very important transitioning point in my life?
Two reasons:

I am going to be hair tested sometime in the next couple of months. Quite a bit of evidence for marijuana use is up there.
I am becoming a monk. I am going to dedicate me life to expanding my consciousness and deepening my connection to God (Consciousness). The shaving of my head symbolizes the shedding of my skin and reBirth, the transition into my new life.I am going to spend much of my day in meditation, two thirty minute sessions, once when I awaken and once before I go to sleep. Before and after I do anything a five minute meditation will be done, deepening my connection to the study. In time, these lengths will increase.

Any suggestions or comments?

Shaving your head is a wonderful experience.Shave it right down to the wood. Right after you shave it the wind feels amazing on your head.

And good luck becoming a monk. Are you planning on moving?

I read once that you will understand God once you understand the statement 'Hitler went to Heaven'.

No not yet

I've already forgiven Hitler.
I've even forgiven George Bush.

Ah, one of those no-rules monks whose supposed monking cannot be defined in any meaningful way.

Well, whatever, good luck with it.

i never understood the shaving head and wearing robe thing.. i mean, it's all about opening up your mind, yet it's at the same time a uniform conformity of everyone looking the same. I realize that the point is to get rid of all desires, but at the same time, isn't choosing your hairstyle and piercings/tattoos a sign of individual creative expression, rather than materialistic desire?

PROTIP: 2 30-min periods of meditation does not equal most of your day spent in meditation., unless you spend 22 hours sleeping every day.

Well, it will equal about 3:30 hours daily when you include the 5 min mediations before and after anything I do. Thats about 1/4th of the day, a lot more than I normally meditate. And the amounts will increase with time.

Don't you feel like you're missing out on life by meditating that long? I meditate for 15min. twice a day, so please don't think I'm some troll stomping on your thread. But, it just seems like meditating your life away goes against my interpretation of buddhism. In all religions, there are extremists, and I think even though the benefits [of meditation] are enormous, it's possible to overdo it. I think it's important to walk a fine line and do everything [in life] in moderation

My goal is knowledge/understanding through exploration of consciousness.
During my experience thus far, too much time has been waisted in the illusion of the third density. I've been on a fifteen minute 4x a day mediation for a few weeks now (minus this last week, addiction to GTA4) and that is just one hour of the fifteen awaken. Why not add one more? Why not another? I still spend 11.5 in this illusion. The potential of growth is astronomical, increasing the time spent 3 fold, the connections that will be made, the expansion my awareness will achieve. This experience will transform my perspective, in ways I can't even imagine at this point. I have some metathings I'll be working on in that time that I don't want to talk about at this point. The potential I will be taping into and increasing my connection of is truly awesome.

This is one of my favorite quotes. It is from the Conversations With God series, by Neale Donald Walsch. Book One, I think.

What's it like to meditate?

I mean, how does it feel to achieve that state (I assume you can and aren't just spending time sitting with your eyes closed)?

What thoughts go through your head?

The river of consciousness
That flows from the source
Murky and dirty
With trash and dirt
Increasing the energy within the stream
Thoughts and feelings thrown in unnecessarily
Subjectivity is not what I seek
Nor material objectivity
Past the content that distracts my mind
Calming the river beyond space and time
Away from God still I move
But not as fast as I once knew
Consciousness moves through me but does not push me away
Peacefully and calmly above the river I now lay
Stationary and serine I have become
The trash and motion I have overcome
Away from distraction
The time has come
To journey up the river
To where all is from
The mantra I have created
I shall repeat
With each breath in
And each breath out
Malahavua
I say again
As I move up the river
Coming closer to zen
Thoughts come into my mind again
Further away from God I am
Retreating with the flow
Away and away further I go
I will master the technique
I will calm my mind
I will not be beguiled by the flowing mind
When my tantra
Has defeated the motion
Again I shall return
Into the ocean

BTW shaving your head won't get you out of your drug test - they can just take a sample of hair off your arm.

Unless you shave your entire body of course...

I shaved my head as well a couple of days ago. Take some pig grease and smear it over your head. It's pretty fucking cool. Your head shines really sparkle-sparkle like in the sun. And if you pick a fight with a bunch of arabs, their punches will just bounce off your head, plus you'll get pig grease on them when you headbutt them.

Yeah its a good experience but my GF doesn't approve.

So Hitler got to heaven and Jesus stopped him at the gates and refused to let him in.

Hitler begged saying that he couldn't get into Hell or purgatory.

But Jesus was having none of it till finally Hitler said that if Jesus let him in he would give Jesus the Iron Cross the highest award in Germany.

Jesus went off to discuss this with God.

Jesus: "But Dad he said he would give me the Iron Cross the highest award in Germany".

God: "Son you couldn't even carry a wooden one when you were on Earth".

Are you actually making the lifestyle change and becoming a monk?

I mean are you ready to abandon the conforts of the modern world and just walk the earth begging for your food?

Show some respect.*

Besides, if I understand Vanhalla's position correctly, he isn't going to become a traditional monk in the sense of taking vows of poverty, chastity, etc...

*One of my close friends trained with that man, Shifu Yan Lei, for several years in London. That monk is the hardest little bastard (and he is little) I've ever seen.

Cute story, but until you understand that Hitler IS in Heaven, you don't know the first thing about God.

pig grease

Pigs produce grease? :S

And what is all this crap about "understanding" god? There is only your perception of what you think is god. Religion is silly.

Religion is silly.

Despite it's simplicity, this sentance contains great amounts of truth.

That would be a gyrovagi you are thinking of. Over the years the wandering monk has faded into obscurity.

I am becoming a sarabait, which is similar to an ascetic. I don't know any other monks, so I'm kinda like a hermit, minus the cenobitic background. I study the spiritual science of consciousness, I quit smoking marijuana, I still would on occasion if wasn't criminalized. I never drink except for experimental purposes, what can I say I'm a scientist. And I use enthenogens like psilocybin and salvia, and soon LSD, on occasion to aid me on my mystical journeys.
I do about four 20 min mediations and one 30 minute meditation throughout the day.

I'm not ready to give up this great opportunity I've been given to expand my consciousness bubble by moving away and waisting away in some shity job trying to scrape enough money together for food and home. But instead, I'm learning to become less dependent on these physical pleasures of materialism, and concentrating instead on consciousness.
I still have a long way to go.

And what is all this crap about "understanding" god? There is only your perception of what you think is god. Religion is silly.
Exactly why I am trying get past all these subjective distractions, good and bad, and reach the source, the pure essence of consciousness. All this shit his holding me down and weighing me back, I must overcome. I will overcome.
And who said anything about religion?
This isn't religion, this is science.
