How do you do it?

Now I realize how stupid I sound by asking that question, but I'm serious. I mean, we all know how you study math. Memorize and jam the equations, laws, and rules into your head until you can say them without thinking. History? Easy, dates, places, time. Science? How does x react to y in z situation? I'm currently in my English class where we're doing in-depth analysis of Virgil's Aeneid. And I get the epic after I read a certain book in it once or twice, but for some reason, I can't seem to put it all together when it's time for the test.

Totse, how do you study works of literature?

When I've studied for literature, I study themes, characters, and key quotations.

It also helps to remember the titles and how to spell the author's names; I've lost out on this one before.

well after reading the book, i go on the internet and look for anything about the book i can find. even sparknotes is good. gives me ideas for essay writing so i can bullshit my way through. but i guess the best way to learn about the literature is to be in a class where the teacher analyzes it.

Try to ask yourself difficult questions on the book and give a detailed answer.
