How do you say these two sentences in standard French?

"Then my father always said to me."

"They were going."

Thanks in advance.

"Then my father always said to me"

Puis mon père me disait toujours . . .

"They were going"

It would depend on the context, but probably "ils allaient"

Wouldn't it be:
"Alors mon pere m'a toujours dit."
???

"Alors mon pere m'a toujours dit." is acceptable, but is sound more like you took it from an online translator.

Puis mon père me disait toujours sounds better

"Then my father always said to me."

What's the context for that? It's not a complete sentence, and doesn't really even make much sense in English. Do you mean "Back then, my father always said to me,..." ?
