I'm not highly experienced at hitching. I've only done it once. I just got back from my trip from San Francisco to Portland and back. I did a bunch of research online beforehand and found more questions than answers, so I thought I'd offer my experience to anyone who was interested.
Ask away.

What did you do while riding with someone?
What questions did you have, did you find an answer on through the experience?

Nope. Some people were a little eccentric, but nobody was dangerous or tried to force me to do anything.

Most people picking me up seemed to want someone to talk to, so i did a lot of listening. People mostly liked talking about themselves which was fine by me. I'd talk when people had questions, but mostly people were more interested in telling their own stories.

The questions I had going into my trip were mostly about how hard everything would be. I was unsure how much I'd get hassled by cops. It wasn't an issue at all. I thought maybe finding places to sleep would be difficult, but I didn't have much trouble with that either. I thought I made have to wait distressingly long periods of times for rides. That didn't happen either. I learned hitchhiking is easier than I'd expected.
What do you mean by "global trip report?"
That looks like a neat website, Archimedes_Soul. I know there's a few for hooking up with places to sleep too. I think couchsurfing.com is one of them. I didn't use any websites myself, but if some of them have a good number of members, I bet it would make traveling this way even easier.

Short story about where you went, what you did, what you've seen and experienced. Share some stories man.
