I'm graduating tomorrow from my college with a major in philosophy. Fuck yeah. Now I get to work a shitty job for the rest of my miserable life.

haha. what, are you really some 16 year old kid who's trying to say how useless liberal arts degrees are?

if not, what job do you have lined up then? why'd you pick philosophy as a major? why aren't you going on to get your doctorate or law degree? what the fuck did you expect from only a bachelor's in philosophy?

i am interested, why did you pick and complete a useless degree? do you not have even a little bit of self interest?

it may have been an interesting degree to do, but what on earth do you now?

that's what i was saying. a philosophy degree can lead to useful things, but on its own, what do you expect to happen? it's your own fault for not planning better.

well, the last part of my post was sort of sarcasm. i actually plan on going to grad school for library science. i picked philosophy as a major because it interests me and it really doesn't matter what you major in (except for a few cases).

maybe you could explain to me then why librarians need a master's degree to do what they do. i really REALLY don't get it.

sorry, i couldn't explain it. i'm sure that once i start a program i'll be learning stuff that i wouldn't think someone would have to know to do that job. it must be way more involved than it appears to be.

i almost missed my graduation because i got piss drunk the night before and didn't go to sleep until 7 AM. ended up running through the aisles to get in my seat. pretty much ruined my day.

Library Science is a serious program that's based around information management. People with this degree are always in high demand, worldwide. With this degree, you aren't pigeon-holed into a job within a library.

It's not a simple library technician program, which many librarians possess.

What got you interested in it?

Also, people with this degree are often sought out by headhunters for work within academia.
