I was just wondering if there are any political science majors on this message board? If so what classes are you taking? Are you the type of person who constantly talks about politics and it pisses everyone off?
I just finished up my freshman year and I took:
Into to American Gov't B+ ( I really didn't study for the final because I had other finals to worry about)
American State and Local Gov't A (Pretty easy course)
Political Theory B (It was my favorite lecture to go to, but we had to read Plato's Republic)
Into to World Politics A
next semester I'm taking:
U.S Presidency
Into to Comparative Politics
Gov't and Politics of Russia
I've met a few people in my major that never shut up about politics and it's annoying. They don't only discuss it with people in their major, but with everyone all the time. I'm interested in politics, but no one wants to constantly talk about it all the time, including myself. There are appropriate places to discuss politics, but I don't want to hear your opinions at a party or in non-political conversation. My roommate was one of these people and it got very annoying. I swear he didn't talk at all unless it was a conversation that he could some how relate to politics. One time I was watching a movie with my girlfriend and he walked in and change it to C-Span, I wanted to kick his ass, but he'd probably sue me. That kid was a douche.

Since when do you need a degree to understand politics? Is this thread a joke, lol.
I'm an IR/Economics major. If you're going for a law degree, I highly reccomend an econ major because it covers politics, IR, and social sciences. It also offers a gateway to standard B.A. careers.

You don't need a degree to understand politics, but it helps. A political science degree is a good degree because there are a ton of job oppurtunities after you leave college.

You must admit, though, that a public or private agency looking to hire someone well-versed in politics would probably prefer someone who has spent years studying it formally over some guy who watches CNN to such excess that he actually has a dream about Wolf Blitzer (hear the voice of personal experience here?).

I don't know what you're plans are, but I hope you've actually read over the 'What can you do with a College Degree in Political Science?' section and realised how many of those options involve graduate degrees, double majors, teaching focuses, and/or years of experience. Not trying to belittle you, just hope you have a realistic handle on your degree and potential career path.

if you're majoring in poli sci to actually go into politics, stopping at a bachelor's degree would be a bit foolish. i say this to anyone going for liberal arts and then bitch about lack of job opportunities. there ARE job opportunities in liberal arts fields, they just typically take more than a bachelor's education.
though if you like that shit and you're good, then you're good. karl rove never finished college, but that kind of thing is rare and takes talent beyond any degree.
i myself am a sociology/criminology major (haven't decided which yet, or both). my fall back is to be a cop or probation officer, i guess.

Actually, I plan on going to graduate school after I finish up my four years, but I still have three years left. I've thought about entering politics, I have two family members in my states legislature and I've helped them both when they were campaigning. I know it's just the state legislature, but it's some experience.

Everyone dissing on Polisci is ignorant of the potential that a BS or a BA can do for you in that field. Law is just the most well known career, but its not the only one. I'm taking it for international and foreign relations careers -easy way to get out into the world.

Hell yeah! Raise my glass for my political science people in this bitch.
I'm that motherfucker that talks about politics and the news all the time.
Fortunately, I have an active social life and drink and party regularly with my friends and fraternity at school, so my "political bullshit" doesn't impede my social life; though it should haha. I keep it under wraps when hitting up girls at parties 'cause as you all probably know from experience, for most girls, politics are bad news because it makes them look stupid.
I'm double majoring in econ and poli sci. Also minor in spanish. Planning to learn arabic over the next three years but we'll see if I'm really up for the challenge
I love international relations, though; my school just doesn't have that as a specific major. Nuclear proliferation, weaponization of space, and economic warfare are my favorite topics that I love studying in IR.
Also on the econ side I am very interested in the economics of extralegal markets, or markets that simply treat laws (national or international) as externalities and function accordingly. Studying the economics of power also.
My main poli sci obsession however is Con. Law. The debates over the constitution are some of the greatest historical tales of this country. Specifically, the New Deal and the managed financial system that was thrust upon this country making everyone slaves and non-sovereign franchises of the "United States of America." It goes back to Lincoln though.
I'm a huge nerd luckily I look pretty normal on the outside. Job prospects I'm interested in are: legislative assistant, cryptology (for navy or blackwater), communications or journalism, lawyer for colombian drug lord, lawyer for saudi oil companies, marketing
Higher education desired: MBA and law school after a few years of finding myself and exploring some different fields

Yea you faggot bitch asses leern to speak before you talk lolz.

There's a 94% first-year-out success rate at my university for the BA in political science.
I'm a senior studying Public Administration. I'm your bastard cousin over in the implementation side of policy. I hope to be some manager of some dept. of federal/state/local government. Get paid decently, hard to get fired, good bennies. And I'm a bad ass, so hope to rise through the ranks and be a good, efficient, honest bureaucrat. ;)
