I've decided I'm gonna go to New York in a couple weeks. I lived in the US for most of my life, I've been to many places on the east coast, yet somehow I've never been to New York City.

Anyways, two questions: What's the best way to get there from Canada? I'm thinking trains, though I know fuck all about train lines in North America. What are the fares and what stations would I want (from Montreal to NYC).

Also, what are recommended accomodations and things I should do (aside from just walking around the city)?

An air-freshener and patience, I swear to God you can't walk 5 blocks without hitting an open-sewer or some jerkoff doing "performance art".

Other than that I recommend checking out the Museum of Natural History, some off-broadway shows, and hitting up some of the comedy-clubs (if that's your thing). I'd also say check out a show at CBGB's but I fear it's gone the way of the dodo.

Amtrak trains from Montreal to NYC will run you about 65 bucks. NYC is great though, if you can get away from the main tourist attractions. But that's mostly everywhere, now isn't it?

The train is great. The station you arrive at is pretty centralized. There will be plenty of interesting things all around.

Pack light.

Take Rev's advice.

Be friendly.
