What were/are your SAT scores and what school do you go to / want to go to? What major?

I know gpa/sports/extra curricular activities matter a lot too but I just want to see how I did.

I'm currently a junior in highschool, so I can't provide the latter info, but I just got my scores back today

Critical Reading-750
Math-800
Writing-630
Essay-6
Out of 2400-2180
Out of 1600-1550

Thank god the writing doesn't matter for most schools.
I'm pretty much above the scores for every school I want to apply to, but not so much for GPA [3.4]. However, I will be applying for art programs, so a portfolio is a major factor in acceptance, so if I'm lucky my portfolio and SAT scores will offset my mediocre GPA.

My top choice is Carnegie Melon.

Others include MassArt, Syracuse, RIT, and RISD.

And I'm throwing UNH, UVM, and CU@Boulder in the pile for now in case I decide not to pursue industrial design and just want to snowboard a lot.

if you want to check your SAT score against your chances of getting into a particular school, usually the school's website has the average SAT score, or 25-75 percentile range of scores.

another good site for looking up that kind of info is:

www.princetonreview.com

i never took the SAT. something about it just really irritates me, more so than other standardized tests. like it somehow thinks it's hot shit. i dunno, ha.

so instead i took the ACT, which is pretty much interchangeable with the SAT for most colleges, as it should be.

got a 28 the first time, 30 the second. would have to look up individual section scores.

most people take these kinds of tests twice. assuming you prepare well, your score is bound to improve by about 10% at least.

edit: oh and i got into ohio state, ohio university, and mcgill university. boston university rejected me, heh. ended up going to ohio state. still an undecided major.

Those are some crazy fucking scores. Props to all of you.

I took them in May and only got an 1170 out of 1600.

590 on critical reading and 580 on math. Are my scores that bad? Most people in my school got in the 1400's out of 2400.

LJ

^I think 1400/2400 would be considered average or maybe a bit above average. A friend of mine got 1300/2400 the first time around and said that was the average.

Your scores aren't that bad, I think some of the people here are exaggerating, it's not impossible but getting above a 2000 is very rare. You'd probably get more realistic results asking people at your school what they got.

I got a 1680 out of 2400 by the way.

I did super shitty on the writing portion.

Reading - 700

My essay sucked. I quit writing halfway into the third paragraph. I've heard most colleges don't look at it anyway so even if I was going to college, why bother trying on that anyway?

And I'm hoping for a National Merit Scholarship. I got a 217 on the PSATs which put me in the 99th percentile.

1510/2400. I know, I know, it's bad.
I had a 3.7GPA overall though, and had many extracurriculars.
I'm attending CSULB, with a major in Civil Engineer, and I hope to get into UCI for grad school.

I'd take a pic of mine but I lost my camera. :( The people who post on this forum are likely to get in the top 10%. Totseans in general were most likely to be high taking it.

I wonder if some people on here bullshit or this is just a more intelligent forum in general compared to the average of the others.

3.9 could be bad if your school does weighted GPA (where it's possible to get over 4.0). My school DIDN'T do that, and I had 3.5 or 3.6 I think. But our valadectorian and whatever the hell the other ones are called were slacker fucks who took easy classes for the easy A. FAGS!

I speak fairly well in French, but McGill's an English-speaking university, so it's all good.

Why? I truly don't understand why you'd rather have mediocre people in your forums. There are people here with "average" scores; totse is just a different place from the real world, you'll have to get used to that. I suppose for the sake of diversity it would be nice if some people got 400s on their SATs, but honestly, what good would that do? It would just further the stereotype of totseans as shit-huffing, raid-sniffing, diphen-smoking (http://www.totse.com/community/showthread.php?p=10312172), highlighter-inserting dumbasses. I for one like my totse to be of high calibre.

Now if you'll excuse me my monocle needs adjusting.

College Board tells you the average. It's not something to shoot for, or even to look at. Compare yourself to your potential, it's the only comparison that you're completely in control of.

This thread is about the SAT scores of totseans, which are what they are, and won't be any less because you will it. This isn't psychology either, the only way to compare yourself is with your potential; one day you'll figure that out--but looking at your test scores I'm not entirely certain. ;)

Maybe the scores are high because people on totse aren't like the rest of the world AND because people who frequent this sub-forum and are willing to post their scores aren't like the rest of totse.
