We're actually looking for someone enlisted/comissioned in a non-US force to help us mod. If you happen to get enlisted, let us know.

Join an under-equipped, under-manned, under-funded force that fights pointless wars and then literally tosses you on the scrapheap once you're broken?

Not a fucking chance.

Considering it strongly in 6 months or so (granted I did say that a year ago but I half broke my ankle). Probably going to aim for the army para regiment since I went on this 3 day 'try out' type thing that they conduct and it was really rather interesting.

The RAF and the Army are fighting over me to get me signed up before university at the moment.

I'm doing Languages (Arabic and Hebrew) plus i can already fly.

Last time i checked the army were offering me 2 grand as a bursary through my last year of college and then all university fees thereafter, plus 5 grand of living expenses going in as a translator with sharp shooter training if i wanted it.

The RAF are offering about twice as much, plus training in other languages when i get in, entry as an officer, and as a pilot so it looks like they'll be my choice.

Bursary for college ends soon though so i'll have to make my mind up.

Its a big decision.

Its a big decision.

If you are determined to join and have a choice then, without question, join the RAF.

I have no doubt if i make the decision to join, it would be the RAF.

just what they do

The clue is in the name, they throw themselves outta planes with a parachute strapped to their backs.

Seems like a fairly retarded thing to do.

And highly embarrassing, I mean who wants to get shot dead whilst dangling mid-air from several sq yards of their mum's knicker elastic?

If you're going to jump out of planes at speed, at least try and do it with some style. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P-oQ--U-WaQ) And with a bit more work, I'm sure he could cut out the need for knicker elastic entirely.

PS. The swiss military asked him for the prototype. He politely told them to get stuffed. :)

Not in the RAFReg, as far as I know. Their main task is protecting RAF assets and airbases, abroad and at home (although they have been going out on patrol a lot more recently in Afghanistan and Iraq).

You might want to check out the video diaries produced by SAC Paul Goodfellow from the RAF Regiment. Yes, they are "official", so you might be suspicious, but they do offer a realistic view of life in the service (the last one went out today in fact, made me kind of sad) - but they're all still there at youtube.com/royalairforce.

The Afghanistan ones are the best.

Oh, and one last thing - join. Its a great career, you'll have a great time.
