Why is it when a guy in anime sees a girl naked, or something arousing, that they get a nosebleed???

Is this a common thing in Japan?

Ive never had a nosebleed no matter how turned on ive been. Nor have I known/heard about anyone getting one.

It's a metaphor for sexual attraction/erections.

It just seemed like more, I was watching old episodes of Tenchi Muyo, and he was at the hot springs with his father and his father was going to go peep on the girls. He put a towel over his head and tied it under his nose to prevent a nosebleed. He said it was, "traditional peeping" uniform.

This and it's a bit less visually offensive to get a nosebleed than it is to get a raging boner in an anime. I wouldn't mind it personally, it's a bit more of a straightforward of an approach, but then again I'm not easily offended, and American.

True, the only anime I've ever seen that ever actually referred to the crotch area when a character was aroused was Chobits, I do believe there was a breakfast scene involving Nato and Chii and Hideki covering his crotch really quick and a big blinking arrow pointing to his penis.
