I'll be in Ireland for few months this summer. What is it like? Anything I should do other than drink a lot while I am there? Also, do people like to pick fights there more so than in the US?
Where abouts you heading?
it's a great place. you'll enjoy.

Yeah of course they like starting fights with Americans more than anyone else. Americans are peoples victim of choice in nearly every country in the world. Being American in Irelands even worse than being English.
If your smart about it and don't have a big mouth nobody will mess with you though. Plus the only time your likely to get in a fight is in the bars or at night when people are drunk. Apart from that I can't imagine anyone randomly attacking you. Remember too Ireland has a real low murder rate. They might beat you up but they wont kill you like the psychopaths in the U.S. do.

I'll be in Dublin. I've have been looking up pubs, and bars to go to. I mainly just want to party and have a good time with people.
I will also be hiking the landscape too. If that helps any? Anything that you think I should see specifically?
TO FISHTEA:
I will be going to bars. I box semi-professionally so I am not TOO worried about fights. I just wanted to know if Americans over there are commonly singled out and fought with for virtually no reason. Even if they have tried to avoid the situation (which is something I have always done when I am out of the country - when I am the guest). I know when I went to Italy (I have family there), everyone was very chill and just had a good time.

What the fuck? Irish people aren't going to suddenly attack you as soon as they find out your an American. Most dislike the American government not the people. They are good people and are very entertaining to sit down and have a conversation with.
However every time I go there I usually end up drinking like a fish almost the entire time.

Well you never know. Judging from my mother's side of the family (all Irish who have quick tempers and fight anything with two eyes and a mouth) I didn't know what to think. Especially at bars and public places where males tend to like to flex their guts.
Anyways I am really excited to go over there and have a blast.
I don't know where all the american hatred thing is coming from. Load of balls. Up North it makes no difference anyway. Theres plenty of Americans in Belfast and they get no hassle, and im sure down souths the same. have a good un.

Aye come over and join the Belfast meet up.. we're going to sort that soon I swear.
Yea if you avoid fights you wont get in any. There is alot of animosity towards Americans these days because of all this Iraq shit but its mainly towards the loudmouth pricks that stick up for their government. Judging by your attitude you'll have no problems. Americans arent popular but if your cool your cool it doesn't matter where you come from. Stay away from the quays and sheriff street at night and avoid dirty looking fuckers in tracksuits (nackers they call them) but apart from that Dublins a fuckin good city to go to.
The bars in the city center are always packed, theres some good ones there but I prefer going to clubs and bars in the areas outside the city center. I good place I recommend going is Howth. Theres some fuckin good bars and night clubs there and its a good place to be drunk. If you dont wanna pay for a hotel room you can sleep on the beach up there. In fact theres shitloads of beaches you can sleep on.

Im from dublin, so ill tell you this. ESPICIALLY at night there is a big divide in terms of people. Basically in some areas chavs have total run of the place. O connell street (main street) and the surrorning areas on the north side of the river in the center of the city are quite dangerous whereas if you stick to the clubs on the southside you will be completly fine. Find out where you are staying. Try to avoid places on the north and west of the city and sty along th coast and that.
Dublin, like any city has some serious social imbalance. Some parts would have zero violent crime and other places 15 year ols walk around with bulletproof vests on.
If you go out with the chavs (or "real dubliners") You will have a shit time and are 10000% more likely to encounter anti-social behavoir.
All in all though south dublin is incredibly safe and fine to wak around at night.

imarugbyball what the fuck is a chav??? Your talking about nackers I'm guessing.
Yeah rugbyballs not lying theres some fuckin dodgy areas just north and west of the city center. Like I said stay the fuck away from Sheriff street at night.
The whole of south and southeast Dublin you can walk around with no problems but I'd be careful where you go on the northside. I'm from the city and I still get attacked walking around the wrong places at night. A couple of months ago I was walking by some flats on that road above O'Connell street and a bunch of lads came outta the flats and one of that smacked me over the head with a pipe and the other lads emptied my pockets.
2 weeks ago my brothers friend was walking down Sheriff street at about 1 in the morning after a concert and a bunch of cunts said gimme your money and he pulled out 50 cents from his pocket and threw it on the ground as a sign of disrespect and they kicked the shit out of him. Its like a different place altogether at night. They're like vampires nackers. Once the sun goes down they come out. Most of these places you never see any scumbags in the day time but at night theres big gangs of them hanging around.

You should learn at least one rebel song before you go, people like to sing rebel songs when the bar closes and they don't want to go home.

If you're in Belfast, watch what you say about politics, and football. If you wear a Celtic Jersey and starting praising the IRA in Shankill, you're looking for a fight. Likewise with wearing Rangers jerseys and praising the UVF in a nationalist area. By the way, there's nothing bad about Rangers fans or protestants, they're just wrong. Tiocfaidh Ar La!

Give Dublin 1 Day.
Fly in and leave it is really just a 2nd rate English city.
The south west, Donegal, Cork City and the 'causeway coast' are the don't miss destinations.
2nd tier Galway City, Connemara, Derry city, the Glens of Antrim, Waterford and around and Carlingford/Warrenpoint.
My bollox it is spinner. Everyone I know hates Americans. At least they talk like they do.

Yeah, don't stay in Dublin man. It's the same as any other city. Or maybe because I'm from Ireland I never saw the big deal about it. You should get a bus to glendalough if you're into beautiful sites and the outdoors. There's the wicklow way walk down there and you could treck for days around there. Full of american tourists during the summer (as I noticed the last time i was there. Don't be suprised if you see me falling around it with a bottle of wine in my hand!)... lots of tours go there. I recommend Gorey (about 2 hours away from dublin... about ten euro on a bus) as a drinking spot for a day. Check out Frenches pub there... if you want the real genuine irish bar vibe. Fucking tar on the ceiling and all. Place is packed all day and night sunday. the surrounding areas of waterford are cool (about an hour and a half from gorey)... especially the Comeragh Mountains. You really need to check out the west too man. Galway is essential.
And yes, the majority of us hate america and it's foreign policy. It may be brought up but no-one is going to beat the shit out of you for voicing your opinion. They will definately stop buying you pints though!

To the OP. There is still shit to do in Dublin if you know where to go. Like I said Howths a good spot. Some more good places are Dun Laioghre, Donnybrook, Pheonix Park, Ballinteer(You can walk to the Wicklow mountaints), Shankill, Malahide, Ballymun and Darndale(lovely spot).
Yeah if you do hang around Dublin make sure you take a trip to some of those places.

I say go to Kerry, to Dingle. Americans love it, sure there's a gay dolphin there and all. Ventry's about a half hour cycle from there a it has one of the nicest beaches in Kerry.
Cork is mostly shit, go for lulzing at the accents.
Try Galway, the night life is good, quite good. Go to the festival actually, it's on from the 14th to the 27th July.

This is correct. Kerry is a lovely place for a tourist. I'd say visit Tralee and Macgillycuddy's Reeks. A trek up to Carrauntoohill is not to be missed.
And Cork is, indeed, mostly shit. Everyone loves Cork city, but I think it's a drab and dreary place. I'd rather spend time in Limerick any day of the week, stabbings/firebombings and all.
Galway city does have some nice night life and a very "young" scene. The rest of the county is shit though, save for Connemara. Who wants to visit Gort? Tuam? Please...

Il Vicoletto,
5 Crow Street,
Temple Bar.
The only place to eat in Dublin, don't miss it. Tiny little italian, fantastic menu etc etc.

That was his plan too. Walk about the Shankill in a Celtic jersey, singing rebel songs.
Anyway, back on top. If you really want to experience Ireland, Dublin is not the place to do it. Go West, to somewhere like Galway. Ireland doesn't have a huge amount to do, but you'll probably find people are friendly. You're unlikely to get into any fights.

Zero. It's only really two housing estates in Limerick that all the trouble comes from. Just stay the fuck away from them and you'll be fine.

I wouldnt be bothered with Limerick. Galway is probably the best of them. Dublin is a hole, Cork is only great if you're from Cork. Limerick is dodgy.
Galway doesnt really have anything bad about it except for terrible traffic. And also if you go about one mile west of the suburbs you are REALLY in wild country. Its interesting to see how quickly it goes from city to desolate.
Dont forget the North though, its underrated.
