The other day a woman in her mid-thirties tried to witness me via door-to-door evanglicism. I thought it seemed nice to let her in and invite her to a drink, and she accepted and came inside. After a while of chatting, leading her to believe that I may actually consider her church (mormanism) I finally turned the reigns on her and began to preach atheism. I said that if she was willing to listen to my beliefs, I would be willing to listen to hers. She politely declined and ran out of the house.

After a while of letting the incident ruminate, I decided that enough was enough: my beliefs are not to be dismissed like that, especially from someone who was trying to push theirs on me. I mean, is it that much to listen to what I have to say if you're going to be running your mouth on my beliefs? So, I decided: I'm going to get my old work outfit on, again (a slightly coffee stained white shirt with black pants) and a nametag. I decided I'm going to carry a manuscript of "The God Delusion" and a series of small pamphlets explaining evolution and atheism.

Basically, I'm going to go door to door and explain my point. What I'm asking you, as a group, is to do the exact same thing. Ride your bike around town and ask people if they're familiar with the works of Noam Chomsky and Charles Darwin. Talk about Dawkins and the "church of atheism." Arrange faux meetings where you "discuss and worship nothing" but let them know there will be "punch and pie."

I don't think this forum has ever been Rick Roll'd before :(

The God Delusion would be a pretty hefty volume to carry around door-to-door, not to mention it's kind of wordy and probably over some people's heads. Letter to a Christian Nation by Sam Harris would be a much better piece of propaganda to shove down people's throats... which is an asshole thing to do, by the way.

^^ Yup, way to sink to their level. I would've been satisfied just seeing the Jehovah running outta my house.

I just tell those people that I can't be a Witness, because I didn't see the accident. Not very original, I know.

I just say "gtfo."

They're like real life trolls. If you feed them, they thrive on it.

What do beliefs have to do with atheism? How do you preach it? Why do you think that would be any "better" then preaching a religion?

And to think, you could have just shut your door.

^Yeah, but it I kinda fun to fuck with their heads. Like when they start "the Bible says. . . ."

And you come back with "Which one? The KJV, the revisede standard, the Douay-Rheims (sp?) or one a half a dozen others."

Usually, they don't even know there is more than one and think that Jesus spoke Elizabethan English.

The fun thing about this is, religion has to be taught, lack of belief comes natural.

They HAVE to go door to door to spread their infectious ideas. If they did not religion would die, with barely a death rattle.

Unindoctrinating someone with ideas that cannot be proven but are more depressing (you rot in the ground instead of living in paradise) is difficult to do, to say the least.

The best cure for deprogramming a theist, comes from the same place all the best cures do, good 'ol science. Science will win over the hearts and minds of the youth and within my lifetime I will see the death throes of a God.

Religion is just one more holy war away from dying, anyway.

Do it. But do it properly. There is nothing more damaging to atheists as a whole than those who think "theists - what a bunch of retards. I can go around being arrogant and unpleasant to them, and treating them as stupid". Yes, it is helpful to spread the message, because many people simply don't understand the arguments against the existence of god. But don't simply say "GOD DOESNT EXIST LOLOLOLOL" and run off giggling. Don't shove it down their throats. Discuss it with them. If they won't have a reasoned discussion... Well, they're probably not worth it anyway.
