has anybody been in the reserves while they were going to college? i am thinking about doing this, but i want to know more about what its like.
can you still have a somewhat normal college experience? i want to go to college, but am also thinking about the military. so i figured i could be in college and be in the reserves at the same time.
anything you could tell me would be appreciated

With certain MOS's, you can get 2-year non-deployable status as long as you're in college. Make sure you get that.
You'd still be a normal college student, you'd just have to go to drill one weekend a month and do your 2 weeks during the summer. And you'll get part, if not all, of your tuition paid for.
If you're interested in the military, I'd reccomend signing up for ROTC. If you contract, you can do SMP, which is the guard/reserves as well as ROTC and make a shitload of money, as well as get your branch guaranteed. Or you can use ROTC to get out of your reserve contract. Or you can say "fuck ROTC, I want to stay enlisted." You have nothing to lose; it's a win-win situation.

Best thing about the military is that they REALLY encourage college, so they'll work their schedule around YOUR college.
Well, at least thats how I know it to be in the Air Force and Navy.

thanks for all that info. I was thinking about westpoint but i dont think my grades are good enough. what do you need to get in?
also, if the military pays for college and all, is westpoint free? or significantly less than most colleges?

Westpoint, as well as Annapolis, are free if you're accepted. You need to meet certain physical requirements and you must attain recommendation from your state's senator.

Good luck getting in. I have a friend who's applied 3 times.
I also know a guy who went to my college for a year, got accepted to West Point, then 'transferred' there as a freshman, because West Point doesn't accept transfers. He said it fucking sucks, so he's trying to come back to my school next year.

If you are going to apply to West Point and Annapolis, you might as well apply to the Air Force Academy and maybe even the Merchant Marine Academy.
Also, you can get a recommendation from not just one of your two senators, but also from your local congressman, and I'm almost positive the Vice President gets to give out recommendations as well.
Lastly, it's basically an unstated rule that if you didn't letter in a sport during high school, you wont get in. You have to demonstrate outstanding academic aptitude as well as physical fitness in the form of sports.
If accepted you would have to pass the Military Entrance Processing Station(MEPS), which is the same basic medical, vision, hearing, blood, etc. tests given to people enlisting in any branch of the armed forces, reenlisting, looking to become an officer, or going to a service academy.

It's not recruiting, it's giving him information that probably wouldn't otherwise find out.

To Hell I will recruit. I'm going to provide infomation that may encourage/discourage you from joining. What you choose to do with that infomation is your call, but I will be more than happy to provide you the infomation you desire if I can.
I don't know about the Army, but I know a couple Navy reservists who did that exact thing. Joined the Reserves, went to college. You'll have the normal college experience, except when you have to do your weekend every month, and do your 2 week tour. One guy I know is just about to get his degree.
Downside is they can activate you and ship you during your school semester. A lot of colleges tend to be understanding with their servicemen though. Discuss with your school what the consequences would be if you got activated and sent to Iraq during a semester.
